Tarot Oracle Helps Solve Toad in Cellar Issue – Strange But True Story

5 of Wands
5 of Wands

I have something on my mind… an inner question.  Maybe it’s a silly one.  I have been dealing with issues in the cellar—a long story that I won’t bore you with involving a dehumidifier and a damp, leaky and unfinished half-basement.

There’ve been salamanders down there—I’ve caught a glimpse of them once or twice in all the years that I’ve been here.  So that is what it is—really a non-issue.  I just go down there to throw in the wet clothes into the dryer and then rush back up.  I have seen this toad though fairly consistently over the past year.  Oh, he’s small really and brown and he’s slow and seems old—doesn’t jump around much and isn’t afraid of people.  He holds his ground.  When the landlord is here or the Exterminator for the mice [which are no longer an issue, thank you] comes, I always ask what they see down there and every answer is the same:  just a little frog.

Yeah, I think frogs are green and toads are brown but I don’t know for sure—this guy seems like a toad since he’s brown but we’re seeing the same little critter.  I used to stare at him and he at me while I put clothes in and out of the dryer, the whole while saying, “Okay don’t you jump–just stay where you are we’ll be fine—you leave me alone and I’ll do the same”.

Now that I’ve been going down there to deal with a dehumidifier issue–sometimes several times or more a day I’ve been down there lately.   And of course, each time I see Samuel.  Yeah, I name things and so I call out to him when I’m there, “Hey Sammy where are you?”  Or “Sam, what-z up dude?”   Now, I don’t know why I think this little brown toad is an old male, but that’s my delusion maybe.

I’ve been thinking about him lately and wondering if he is in a hell-realm there and if I should find a way to scoop him up somehow and take him outside.  What’s he eating down there?  Maybe crickets or spiders or something and of course the leaky basement provides some water for him when it rains.  But now with a dehumidifier down there, maybe I’m messing with his ecosystem?

How would he do outside?  He’s been in that hell-of-a-realm for a good while and he’s slow and maybe sick… could the outdoors be worse for him?  After all, who am I to interfere with Sam’s karma?

I think of a Buddhist teaching about how our ego/personality mind will create problems where none exist or will worry just to give itself a job to do if you don’t give it something better to do.

And I do have better things to do.  I need to get a life, right?  I have a lot of home and yard projects and my psychic work and other things that I’d like to call “a life”.  I want to get this issue with Sammy the toad out of my mind!  I’m going to turn to the tarot cards—believe it or not—to ask what to do about Sammy.  Should I leave him alone or try to get him out of the hell-of-a-realm, scooping up and escorting him outside?  Maybe ole’ Sam has lived down there longer than I have –maybe he was born down there and maybe didn’t just somehow hop in around a weak cellar window by mistake.  Who knows?

The bottom line question:  With all things considered, is it best if I leave this toad alone?  What should I consider about that?  Okay, so I am going to grab my cards because I just want this to be resolved in my mind and I’ve decided that I will go by whatever the oracle says here!  So, let’s shuffle….

O boy!  5 of Wands [image above].  A guy in a boat, surrounded by stormy water.  My first thought is that this toad got washed into the cellar somehow during a storm.  Actually, I am thinking of that year when we had the remnants of Hurricane Irene… there was a lot of water.  So, apparently, he’s been down there for years.  I was only renting here for about a year or so when the rainy leftover’s of hurricane Irene came through here.

Listen, hold on a second… I have to put some seed in the bird feeder outside.  I put a day’s worth in during the morning hours because otherwise, this raccoon that looks like a big dog (I swear he looks like a German shepherd dog size-wise) comes by at night and eats it all. I’ve caught him red handed.  I tap on the window when I see him and he sheepishly walks away!  Anyway, the birds are calling…be right back.

Aside from the 5 of Wands being about unnecessary hassles, petty annoyances and trivial issues, I still don’t know what to do.  However, I do feel the card guided me to an understanding of how the toad got there to start with.   It seems that this card is telling me not to worry about it… that it’s a trivial issue.

Actually, I already know that.  I just want to know if the toad is suffering I guess.  Let me shuffle again.  It doesn’t seem like a healthy environment down there… not much light coming in.  Don’t toads need sunlight?  Maybe I should google toad information but that is going to get my mind in even a worse tangle I’m sure!

I’m going to a yes/no format with my cards now… aces are indicators of a yes.  Is the little guy suffering by being in the cellar environment?  Yes or No?  (I added the words “by being in the cellar environment” at the end because while he may be suffering because all sentient beings do, my question is made more specific by adding the words in quotations to make the question more specific.)   Or we could ask:   Is the suffering of this sentient being increased by being in the cellar I like that wording better.

YES Answer; Ace in 3rd Pile is YES indicator
YES Answer; Ace in 3rd Pile is YES indicator

Oh, shoot!  Darn.  I got a YES answer to that question—Ace in the 3rd stack.  And in the other two stacks of 13 cards, the top cards [which can also be ‘read’] are ‘The World’ and ‘4 of Wands’.  Gee, the 4 of Wands is about being outside of the home and happy.  And ‘The World’ is about ending/completion.  I’m starting to get the feeling that I should find a way to scoop up the toad and get him outside.  Maybe I will wait until my grandson comes to help me with that drama/trauma.  I don’t want to hurt Sammy, you know?

Well, let me ask another Yes or No Question.  If this toad’s suffering is increased by being down in the hell-of-a-realm basement, shall I then scoop him up and take him outside?  Maybe he’s used to it down there and to take him outside would increase his suffering or a predator could get him; after all, he doesn’t hop much.  Geesh.  What a can of worms my mind opened up here!

Okay, so shall I scoop him up and out?  Yes or No?  Well.  I get a NO to that one with a very weak, well yeah maybe indicator—an Ace [of Swords] in the 2nd pile.   The Ace in the 2nd pile is saying, “Well, you could but really no you shouldn’t.”   That’s the way this Yes/No spread works-the rules.

NO Indicator: No Ace in 3rd Pile
NO Indicator: No Ace in 3rd Pile

You know I think that this frog’s fate [or this toad trouble]  is a doomed destiny either way and maybe we should let him die a natural death where he’s used to his surroundings and where he won’t be beat up worse [9 of Wands].  He seems to be coping down there.  The landlord may be sending some workers to clean up some building materials that were down there since I moved in.  I will tell them to be careful of the toad if they see him; hopefully he will go hide away from the workers.  The other 2 cards I received were 9 of Wands and 5 of Pentacles [Coins].  Yeah, you can see the contemplation that I’m doing about this reflected in the 5 of Pentacles and the 9 of Wands is probably a reflection of the beat up toad [I’m not sure but he may be missing a leg; thus the hopping problem] and also it is me beating myself up over this issue.  LOL

I send him love and healing now and am not afraid of him hopping toward me like I used to be.  He may have lost a leg when he traveled via the gutter system during the storm.  Bless his heart.  I’d forgotten that — I had that thought last night when I saw him hop while I was down there; it was a strange hop and he sits tilted.  I think one of his legs is gone. 😦

I would like to bring him sunlight as a gift and a green lawn.  Last night I did leave a light on down there… I mean what the heck, light is light even if it is artificial.  Like I said, bless his heart.

Maybe you will send him a little love.  Yeah, I know, he’s only a little brown toad with only one leg but all sentient beings deserve to be free from suffering.

Now, I have settled this issue.  The cellar increases his suffering, yet I should not try to scoop him up to take him outside—we should let him remain in his familiar environment because either way, his journey on Earth is about over.  There are several indicators — the 9 in the of Wands; 9 indicate endings. And the other indicator of the end of the line for this toad is the card of  The World–the last card of the major arcana; the card indicating a completed cycle.

It is more humane not to traumatized him further through my act of scooping him up and putting him outside; he’s used to [accustomed to] his present environment and is probably coping the best as he can–just the same as we all are.

May he, and all sentient beings, be free of suffering!

Daily Divination 8-8-11 Favorable Conditions Today; The Magic of Twilight Time Reinstates Peace; Mountaintop Mist Experience – I-CHING Kua 11/Peace, with Astrology and Tarot Associations

We achieve a state of peace when we are in perfect balance. I find that reflecting on that one sentence to be so helpful. Perfect balance equals peace! E-Z; no problem–right? Today the Oracle reminds us of this simple truth and predicts favorable conditions for your life offering that caveat with it. Twilight! I love that time of evening and morning when there is a balance between the heavens and the earth—a magical time. When I think the word “peace”—that’s the image that comes to mind. And we see that in the image here. I used to have a paper route and for 3 years, when my I had babies at home, while they and my husband slept, I’d leave at 3 am daily (7 days a week) to deliver my newspapers. I didn’t want to put my infant in a daycare and opted for that way of adding to the family income for those years. Anyway, greeting the day as it was being born was a beautiful part of that job—breathtaking sunrises too. Another favorite time was calling the kids to come inside from their outdoor play as it began to get dark; but I’d linger there first, sitting outside for a while before calling them at dusk.

Twilight times when time seems to stand still are so magical. Can we capture and hold that feeling 24-7? If we can, we walk the world in a state of peace.

Yesterday at dusk my grandson and I were at the top of the mountain at 6,000 feet caught in the midst of a passing cloud at twilight time. (It was COLD up there too if you were wearing simple t-shirts which we were.) In those moments, my 13 year old grandson and I stood there together letting the fast-moving misty clouds pass all around us.  Immersion in the mountain mist at twilight time!

I still carry that feeling within me now as I type this and hope to share it with you; let’s go there together in our minds.

Pulling this Kua for today’s cosmic communiqué as I have,  is a validation of our mountain top experience of harmony, balance and perfection—those are 3 keywords to express the archetype of I-CHING Kua 11/Peace.

The still point of Peace is a blessing in which “all feels right with the world” and the outlook is positive and clear and a divine perspective is gained. The misty clouds of energy flowing past us on the top of the mountain at dusk yesterday as we closed our eyes and held out our arms to immerse ourselves in the mountain energy, reminded us about flow itself; the TAO. In those moments we were fully open to whatever experience came our way—we surrendered to the midst, the mountain, the moment!

Whatever your own situation is today, perhaps if you take a mental journey to the moments I’ve been describing, capture it and carry it with you, it will help you feel the peace too.

Daily Divination 8-3-11 Have you come to a standstill? Take Heart! Deal with Details or Meditate and Let it all go! I CHING Kua 12- Standstill with Astrology and Tarot correlations

Standstill!—that’s the name of today’s message from Kua 12 of the I-CHING. My first thought was how that relates to Mercury Stationing Retrograde today—that’s a standstill for sure! Things that are usually humming along come to a halt for no apparent reason. We all have those times in life when progress seems impossible! For example, I’ve been so busy today that I just looked down and realized that I’m still in my pajamas! (That’s how she goes when you work from home.) It’s been like trying to shovel snow in a blizzard today—and with temperatures still in the 90’s that’s a cooling vision if nothing else!

All of that Mercury stationing retro can leave one feeling a bit disoriented and unfocused—not to mention Mercury is opposing Neptune! Some days we can only do our best and then turn to the higher energies (Neptune) where things seem more conducive. Sometimes during those occasions when you can’t focus well anyway, why try? It just feels like the energy now is calling is more inward.

Isn’t it just like divinity to show us that we aren’t as “in control” as our ego tends to think we are by crossing a few wires every now and then? Today could just be one of THOSE days! But we mustn’t allow ourselves to feel totally snowed under—sorry, it must be the heat; just can’t stop with the snow impressions! At these times, we do ourselves the greatest service by reminding ourselves that everything really IS unfolding exactly the way it should. This goes back to a blog from a few weeks ago—one of the greatest questions we can ask ourselves, said Einstein, is whether we believe in a friendly or unfriendly universe. In other words, one way to say it is that you either believe things are working in your favor, or you don’t. May as well agree to it—what is, ‘is’.

This seems to be a time for details too—at least until August 8th. Why so? Because Mercury is standing still and retrograding in the sign of Virgo—the detail oriented archetype. Essentially, if we can’t accomplish something really big right now, it may be best to back up a bit (retrograde) and work on the smaller details. Cool?

Cool! There I go again with the temperature references. I changed my twitter background to a Horn of Plenty image to try to encourage fall temperatures today and have “cool” on my brain.

Okay, so what needs maintenance and fine tuning and detailed attention? Go there—that’s today’s message. It’s time to go with that flow instead of spinning wheels and getting yourself deeper in the snow. Oh, if only it did snow for just a moment! It will soon enough is the point and that’s the message today—creative work can still happen even if there’s a freeze on. Become attentive to the intimate details of life now; do your part to melt the ice from within. Like I said, it’s a good time to meditate (it always is but…) now especially.

THE ASTROLOGY AND TAROT KEYWORD ARCHETYPE ASSOCIATIONS FOR KUA 12/STANDSTILL ARE:

Cancer – nurturing from within

Leo – not getting attention/acknowledgment

Daily Divination 8-1-11 Neptune/Mercury Joy and Enthusiasm—Can You Feel It? Now’s the time to Channel Inspirational Energy; I-CHING Kua 16 with Astrology and Tarot Archetypes

Enthused, zapped, lit up, electrified and turned on with energy—can you feel it? Today take that bridge to the world of Joy and Enthusiasm! There’s nothing like it under the Sun and speaking of Sun, let’s add on Optimism and Celebration! Enthusiasm has nothing to do with ego; rather, its  in connection to The Divine that we experience it– and in doing so, we  joyously merge with Life and with others. Something is shifting—perhaps it is because July is now behind us and we have the optimism of the new month ahead; but something has definitely shifted.

Astrologically, we have Mercury in nearly an exact opposition to Neptune which can illuminate the ever-present grace of The Divine; the ocean (Neptune) of inspiration is communicating (Mercury) with us!

The image for the I-CHING Kua 16/Enthusiasm is a perfect representation of a Cosmic Neptune and Communicative Mercury.

The keyword for today is Enthusiasm and you will do well to create it wherever and however you can and share it with others—it should be easy.

Today is a great day to inspire others and even the most daunting goals can be achieved easily with a little Enthusiasm; that grace is easily obtainable today.

Take time to celebrate today; never underestimate the power of shared Enthusiasm. The increase in confidence that Enthusiasm provides today will help you successfully achieve any endeavor.

Enthusiasm is generated by inspiration and the planet of inspiration (Neptune) is making a direct hit to the planet of communication (Mercury). But now I’m repeating myself. Mercury and Neptune will oppose until August 8th. It’s a great day; a great week (just like it is any time but especially NOW) to be touched by the illuminating creative power of Enthusiasm!

ASTROLOGY AND TAROT KEYWORD ARCHETYPE ASSOCIATIONS FOR I-CHING KUA 16/ENTHUSIASM

The World – dancing to the rhythm of life in the NOW; inner visions; unity consciousness; Oneness withS Divine Spirit; manifesting Heaven on Earth; like “The Chariot”, seeing the whole picture; joyful participation in the creation of life

See you tomorrow….

Daily Divination 7-28-11 Today call upon and direct the collective forces; It’s time to take the bull by the horns – I CHING KUA 7, Discipline

Today we realize that the confusion or ineffectiveness that has gone on for too long must be stopped and it’s time to take the bull by the horns as they say. Create a strategy and stick to it with disciplined focus. The cosmic communiqué comes from Kua 7 of the I-CHING which is called “discipline” or “the army” or “collective forces”.

If you can work together with others to accomplish something today—do so. But even working on your own is effective if determined effort and discipline is applied to clear-cut and worthy goals. Apply your innate right to call upon the collective forces that surround you and direct those energies!

One hopes that this is what is occurring in Washington, DC in the United States today—the time for nonsense has ended and it’s time to end the confusion and distortion and become effective.

In your own life, maybe it is time to start that diet or exercise program or achieve that goal that you have been putting off. Whatever it is, exert your own inner authority and be determined not to allow doubt or excuse or any other weakening thought or attitude.

In certain areas or situations or circumstances of our life we must not fail—failure is not an option! What is that for you today? Gather your inner and outer forces of energy and direct them with authority. If you need to elicit the assistance of others to achieve your goal, provide the reason for them to be dedicated to help you—motivate them!

This Kua 7/Discipline brings to mind the time when I was going to school to receive a degree–in Physical Therapy Program. I developed a “do or die” attitude knowing that at the time my freedom and survival both depended on acquiring the degree and passing the board exams. It was THE most disciplined time in my life (aside from training to run in 10K races, but that’s another story). I’d start to worry… those little doubts tried to creep in on occasion.

Whenever that started to happen, I’d straighten my back, raise my chin and with a stiff upper lip would say to myself, “STOP!”, before the whole thought could fully form. Failure was not an option. That was true for other times in my life too and for all of us there are times when we have to say with determination, “This is how it is going to be, PERIOD—END OF STORY—WILL NOT HEAR ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY!”

And with that I’d gather up the energy and have at it. That’s what today’s message is about; locating those determined feelings and helping others locate them in themselves and then whipping it up and not taking no for an answer. (Well, that’s my take on it anyway.)

I do believe that when we align with a purpose and feel deep within its worth and we have that type of determination, The Universe aligns with us and the Angels sing from the high realms, “So be it, Hallelujah and Amen”. But, that’s me.

Daily Divination 7-16-11 Full Moon-Time to Lighten Up Through Contemplation; I CHING Kua 20 – Leo, Virgo, Capricorn, Aquarius, Death, The Empress, The World, The Magician, The Hermit, Strength

How well do we accept things as they are, without feeling the need for improvement?

Can we be silent and serene like the current full Moon?

What example do we set for others?

Are we truly living in harmony with All That Is?

How sympathetic are we to another’s point of view?

These are some good questions from Kua 20.   Particulary good ones for me to be asking myself after yesterday’s ego trip—see blog of 7-15-11.

Today’s message is inspired by the I CHING Kua 20. It’s time to lighten the mind.

Reverent Solitude enables one to gain an overview, observe from a detached position, increase understanding and integrate through refection. The current full Moon energy can enhance such contemplation.

The result of contemplation can be this insight, “I am all that I perceive; all that is resides in me.”

Sometimes we don’t want to admit that to ourselves—we believe that any disharmony that we experience comes from outside of us. In contemplation we can see the truth clearly—we just need the larger view that meditative equipoise can provide. It is like going to the mountain top again and attaining the overview.

The Astrology Correlations to Kua 20 are:

Leo – the heart of your be-ing

Virgo – taking stock; using discernment

Capricorn – stability; midheaven

Aquarius –detachment

The Tarot Correlations to Kua 20 are:

Death – going into the depth of one’s being

The Empress – beauty and grace in daily living

The World – All That Is; Unity Consciousness

Magician – Transmutation

The Hermit – retreating from activity

Strength – power coming from acceptance

With the Moon in Capricorn and the Sun in Cancer (full Moon opposition to Sun), issues of parenting as well as emotional security and maturity may be coming to a head.  All the more reason to apply the advice of today’s message.

Daily Divination Improvement over the next few months; The Inevitability of Change and Divine Timing – I CHING Kua 24; Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, Death, The Empress, The World, Hanged Man, The Chariot

Today pause to remember that life has cycles continually unfolding.  There will be improvement over the next few months; this is a turning point.

Turning points are inevitable and the motion life never really stops; yet pauses do happen during the changes of the cycles and seasons.

These are moments when the world seems to hold its breath while a shift occurs. Sensitive people can sense these transitions within their own systems. Take the shift from winter to spring—while there still may be snow on the ground, the promise of spring is felt by those who are sensitive and who feel the quickening that happens beneath the earth; the daffodils are ready to come up even though there are no early shoots above the ground, a sensitive person and feel the stirrings of spring.

If your efforts seem to be at a standstill, remember the lesson of the season of winter into spring given in the paragraph above. We trust the seasons in nature and should hold the same trust in the inevitability of change in our personal lives as well. Natural Law! Nature is an awesome instructor, especially in regard to lessons of divine or ‘right’ timing. There are times in our lives when we cannot effect change and just like the message of yesterday’s blog (Kua 13) we can only wait—just like we wait for spring each year.

Spring will come when it will—and we know it will–and there’s nothing at all we can do to hurry it along.

That’s the epitome of today’s message which is very similar to yesterdays.

Another good example of today’s message has to do with the steady improvements that come as we recover from a cold or flu. We may try to push forward as we sense an improvement from the day before but as we do, we only have to rest again—more recuperation is needed. We cannot ‘bounce back’ until our energy has been replenished.

The greater point of today’s message is that there are times when there is nothing we can do but have faith because “doing something” doesn’t help, it only hinders at these times. Certain times it is best not to interfere; oh, yes, we can try but soon find that it gets us nowhere and we need to return and release attachments.

Today’s message is to take care of yourself while a transition is occurring in your life. Look inward and be in touch with The Divine within you. Be gentle with yourself today; don’t try to accomplish too much.

Let your energy be recharged now and remember nature—the ebb and flow of the ocean. Be receptive and patient, not too outgoing.

The next few months will show steady improvement.

Contemplate the word “regeneration”.

The Astrological Correlations for the I CHING Kua 24 are Capricorn (withdrawal), Aquarius (detachment) and Pisces (expanded awareness).

The Tarot Correlations are:

Death – transformation; change

The Empress – pregnant with and about to be born

The World – Divine Timing

Hanged Man – letting go; surrender

The Chariot – seeing the big picture from within consciousness

Cosmic Communiqué 6-25-11 Just Let Go! Can you? Or are you Hanging On to what’s no longer needed? – Kua 23; Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius- Death, The Empress, The World

Remember one of the final scenes in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King—that movie? Frodo takes on the burden of holding the ring which brings him great trouble and pain and when it’s time to let it go, after great trials to get to the fires into which he needs to throw it in, he simply cannot release it? It makes me think of this Kua 23 of the I CHING and of that movie!

We can become so accustomed to difficulties and suffering or any kind of negativity, that when the opportunity comes to simply release them or walk away—we have a hard time doing it! We can carry a problem over time to such a degree that we begin to over identify with it. We don’t know who we are without it or who we used to be and even though we don’t want it any longer, we still hang on to it when the moment comes to drop it in the fires to be transmuted and walk away. We cling to what has come to an end and no longer serves us and when that clinging causes us suffering, it is time to surrender. I will give a personal example below.

The truth is that everything disintegrates with time, yet sometimes we desperately try to hold together what we know is collapsing. We can feel that we no longer have the strength to move in a different direction and we therefore try to hold on to what should be released.

Without endings, there are no possibilities for beginnings. What are you holding to that is causing you sadness or unhappiness? Consider that these feelings and circumstances will intensify until you release or let go of what you already know is no longer a part of who you are.

The issue at hand today is one of impermanence—the impermanent nature of life. Everything changes form and the soul itself changes its circumstances (relationships, jobs, locations, friends, etc.) periodically in order to force its growth.

What comes to mind as I look at the image on this card and reflect on its meaning is a situation that occurred some time ago with one of my daughters. In her enthusiasm to encourage me to leave my mountain top and come down to the flatlands with her and my other daughters, she was taking an inventory of my belongings. As she moved through each of the rooms in my rental home here, she began ticking off items that I could get rid of in order to fit into a one-bedroom apartment down the mountain. I tried to envision with her as we looked at my den, living room, dining room and all three bedrooms here— a meditation room, exercise room and two bedrooms.

It’s all well more than I really need but as I considered what I could do without, feelings of sadness began. Right then I stopped myself realizing my attachments to ‘things’—to form. My precious collections and decorations and “stuff” were causing me suffering due to my feelings of attachment to them. In that moment and over subsequent days, I released them gradually and surrendered. I remembered that I know how to do that—I’ve started over numerous times in my life. My suffering ended as the attachments to my “stuff” were freed one-by-one, day-by-day. Yes, I still have my “stuff” and haven’t moved; but, thanks to my daughter, I have re-visited my attachments and let go.

Who I AM has nothing at all to do with a collection of “stuff”. And lest you think it is only stuff that I’ve released attachments to in my life, let me quickly assure you that my letting go has included people and places—not just things. I’ve also released attachments to beliefs and ideas and conceptions and those are probably much more difficult for me than the others.

I’m still here and so are all my things, but should the day come when the opportunity and situation demand that I let much of it go, I will without suffering—just as I will at the time of my death.

The astrological archetype correlations are Scorpio (death), Sagittarius (optimism/freedom), Capricorn (age, maturity) and Aquarius (liberation). The Tarot card archetypes that relate to this Kua 23 called “Splitting Apart” are: Death (Ending), The Empress (Rebirth) and The World (Completion).

The recycle of death and rebirth that is the very heartbeat of life itself—the impermanence—is part of the Universe. Stars die and are reborn all the time.
