The Difference Between the Sun and the Moon in Astrology

The Difference between the Sun  and the Moon in Astrology

Sun Moon

I will continue with the Moon through the Houses blog posts but wanted to add this post in, in-between.

The Sun is our self-concept or identity–one’s sense of self-hood.  If a person just thought of “self” words such as:
self-confidence,
self-esteem,
self-image,
self-preservation,
self-expression,
self-contentedness,
self-consciousness,
self-ish-ness
So you can see that the Sun correlates with Ego, right?  And it represents our need for recognition and how one goes about getting that recognition or attention or acknowledgement of the “self”.
The Moon, on the other hand, represents subliminal or less conscious patterns in the psyche.  It’s not ego that we express outwardly like the Sun but rather how you “feel” inwardly.    Sometimes it is instinctual and not conscious at all–meaning that it is the part of a person that there are no words to express, especially for someone who is not in touch with their feeling nature at all.  And let’s face it, lots of people have shut that down purposefully.  Look at soldiers, they are trained to shut that down.  People will often deny or shove down the Moon energy but it shows in the world anyway.  People see the traits of your Moon energy whether you deny them or not.  People will project their Moon energy too–attracting other people who will carry that energy for them.
Your Moon energy is your emotional response–your instinctual or  “gut” responses.  Moon and Sun are like heart and head respectively.  That’s one way of seeing it.
We could also say this about the Sun/Moon contrast:  The Sun dominates it’s environment.  The Moon’s way differs; it adjusts and responds.  Luna is sensitive to surroundings, melding into them rather than trying to shape or resist like the Sun does.
When I was a child, my mother and father would advise me to stop being so sensitive.  They, of course, knew nothing of astrology.  If they did, they’d have understood just how difficult their criticisms of my nature and chastising me to “develop a tougher skin” wasn’t accomplished so easily with someone of my nature.  Neptune is sandwiched between my Sun and Moon and all in the same sign and that alone is an astrological signature of a “sensitive”.  But they were giving me advice that they thought was helpful I’m sure even though I felt very misunderstood.
The Moon is Heart and Pure Emotion and more more fluid than the Sun.  The Sun, you see, tries to screen out emotion in order to guard the ego but if a person has a Sun and Moon close this is more difficult to do (in my own case, the Moon is balsamic to the Sun).  The Moon springs from the unconscious and can feel overwhelmed.
There’s so much more that can be said and will be said through my upcoming Moon class…but that’s a little bit of the difference between the Sun and the Moon.  What if the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign?  The archetype of the Sun sign and the Moon sign if they are in the same zodiac sign, are the same but they manifest differently in the ways just described.

Daily Divination 8-24-11 Today, Grace, Beauty and Feeling At Home with One’s Self and One’s World – I-CHIG Kua 22, Grace with Astrological and Tarot Archetype Correlations

Today, the message is to radiate a sense of well-being and an attitude that says, “I feel at home with myself and with the world.” This is our birthright and the epitome of who we are at the deepest level. I’m back from the family reunion – and a good time was had by all. Today’s cosmic communiqué is inspired by the I-CHING Kua 22, called GRACE or OUTER REFINEMENT. It is about “keeping still” and “success” that comes from grace on earth. We could add that grace brings success if we can have the stillness of the mountain as our core today. Grace is the connection between The Divine Creator or the Tao and humankind. Today we are being asked to see the beauty of our inner essence despite judgments about our outer appearances or the appearances of others. Watch for inner creative impulses today and allow them to flower from the stillness.

We are being asked to remember that beauty in the outer world is always transient—it is born and then fades to be born again. We see this everywhere in nature (flowers, trees, etc.)

When we try to grasp or possess a flower, we accelerate its demise but if we can manage to eliminate the desire to grasp or possess, the experience of grace becomes a joy in our life today.

Greet beauty when it shows up today and become one with it without demands or expectations, remembering all that is upon this earth is transient and in a process of dying to be reborn.

Let Mother Nature be your teacher today and appreciate beauty and love in whatever way it shows up for you. Merge with it instead of trying to possess or control it and keep still and smile.

PS – enhance your ‘inner’ beauty

Daily Divination 8-2-11 Prosperity and Radiance! Are You in The Flow? I CHING KUA 14 with Tarot and Astrology Archetype Correlations

Using resources wisely—ask Washington DC about that! Today’s message is about PROSPERITY inspired by the I-CHING Kua 14. Prosperity has radiance; it is a grace, an energy, which can be used with positive or negative effects. The energy of money can be either nourishing and supportive or small-minded and self-indulgent. Boy O boy! Don’t we see THAT debate being played out in Washington right now?

The I-CHING wisdom states that  fortune smiles upon us when our vision and plans are in harmony with the flow of the Universe. I think the important word in that last sentence is “flow”. Fears about not having enough always stop that flow—trust me on this one! It’s one of my life lessons! (My natal North Node is in Taurus in the 10th.)

When we have ideals that are in harmony with a compassionate and “flowing” universe, the resources are available to us. Miserliness and greed don’t seem to be part of natural law and the flow of the TAO.

On the other hand, we know that with abundance comes the responsibility of being good a caretaker of resources—acting modestly but not selfishly seems like good common sense. The question is whether or not we act in accordance with what is the highest and best within us. What attitude is in honor and in integrity? It involves compassion and sharing what we have with others when the opportunity presents itself.

The current debates in our country (United States) and throughout the world about finances and the economy bring forth an opportunity to examine our own feelings about finances, wealth, personal economic issues.

Today’s message brings forth the suggestion to examine our own attitudes about finances, prosperity and wealth and our relationship to others where money is concerned.

Relaxing one’s fearful attitudes and maintaining a hopeful and relaxed mind while neither hoarding nor being greedy helps us to stay in the flow that supports prosperity.

Today, the message is to take heart and know that we are all abundantly blessed and with that inward inspiration, outward manifestation becomes apparent. Is this a truth that you are living?
