The Difference Between the Sun and the Moon in Astrology

The Difference between the Sun  and the Moon in Astrology

Sun Moon

I will continue with the Moon through the Houses blog posts but wanted to add this post in, in-between.

The Sun is our self-concept or identity–one’s sense of self-hood.  If a person just thought of “self” words such as:
self-confidence,
self-esteem,
self-image,
self-preservation,
self-expression,
self-contentedness,
self-consciousness,
self-ish-ness
So you can see that the Sun correlates with Ego, right?  And it represents our need for recognition and how one goes about getting that recognition or attention or acknowledgement of the “self”.
The Moon, on the other hand, represents subliminal or less conscious patterns in the psyche.  It’s not ego that we express outwardly like the Sun but rather how you “feel” inwardly.    Sometimes it is instinctual and not conscious at all–meaning that it is the part of a person that there are no words to express, especially for someone who is not in touch with their feeling nature at all.  And let’s face it, lots of people have shut that down purposefully.  Look at soldiers, they are trained to shut that down.  People will often deny or shove down the Moon energy but it shows in the world anyway.  People see the traits of your Moon energy whether you deny them or not.  People will project their Moon energy too–attracting other people who will carry that energy for them.
Your Moon energy is your emotional response–your instinctual or  “gut” responses.  Moon and Sun are like heart and head respectively.  That’s one way of seeing it.
We could also say this about the Sun/Moon contrast:  The Sun dominates it’s environment.  The Moon’s way differs; it adjusts and responds.  Luna is sensitive to surroundings, melding into them rather than trying to shape or resist like the Sun does.
When I was a child, my mother and father would advise me to stop being so sensitive.  They, of course, knew nothing of astrology.  If they did, they’d have understood just how difficult their criticisms of my nature and chastising me to “develop a tougher skin” wasn’t accomplished so easily with someone of my nature.  Neptune is sandwiched between my Sun and Moon and all in the same sign and that alone is an astrological signature of a “sensitive”.  But they were giving me advice that they thought was helpful I’m sure even though I felt very misunderstood.
The Moon is Heart and Pure Emotion and more more fluid than the Sun.  The Sun, you see, tries to screen out emotion in order to guard the ego but if a person has a Sun and Moon close this is more difficult to do (in my own case, the Moon is balsamic to the Sun).  The Moon springs from the unconscious and can feel overwhelmed.
There’s so much more that can be said and will be said through my upcoming Moon class…but that’s a little bit of the difference between the Sun and the Moon.  What if the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign?  The archetype of the Sun sign and the Moon sign if they are in the same zodiac sign, are the same but they manifest differently in the ways just described.

Daily Divination 8-24-11 Today, Grace, Beauty and Feeling At Home with One’s Self and One’s World – I-CHIG Kua 22, Grace with Astrological and Tarot Archetype Correlations

Today, the message is to radiate a sense of well-being and an attitude that says, “I feel at home with myself and with the world.” This is our birthright and the epitome of who we are at the deepest level. I’m back from the family reunion – and a good time was had by all. Today’s cosmic communiqué is inspired by the I-CHING Kua 22, called GRACE or OUTER REFINEMENT. It is about “keeping still” and “success” that comes from grace on earth. We could add that grace brings success if we can have the stillness of the mountain as our core today. Grace is the connection between The Divine Creator or the Tao and humankind. Today we are being asked to see the beauty of our inner essence despite judgments about our outer appearances or the appearances of others. Watch for inner creative impulses today and allow them to flower from the stillness.

We are being asked to remember that beauty in the outer world is always transient—it is born and then fades to be born again. We see this everywhere in nature (flowers, trees, etc.)

When we try to grasp or possess a flower, we accelerate its demise but if we can manage to eliminate the desire to grasp or possess, the experience of grace becomes a joy in our life today.

Greet beauty when it shows up today and become one with it without demands or expectations, remembering all that is upon this earth is transient and in a process of dying to be reborn.

Let Mother Nature be your teacher today and appreciate beauty and love in whatever way it shows up for you. Merge with it instead of trying to possess or control it and keep still and smile.

PS – enhance your ‘inner’ beauty

Daily Divination 8-2-11 Prosperity and Radiance! Are You in The Flow? I CHING KUA 14 with Tarot and Astrology Archetype Correlations

Using resources wisely—ask Washington DC about that! Today’s message is about PROSPERITY inspired by the I-CHING Kua 14. Prosperity has radiance; it is a grace, an energy, which can be used with positive or negative effects. The energy of money can be either nourishing and supportive or small-minded and self-indulgent. Boy O boy! Don’t we see THAT debate being played out in Washington right now?

The I-CHING wisdom states that  fortune smiles upon us when our vision and plans are in harmony with the flow of the Universe. I think the important word in that last sentence is “flow”. Fears about not having enough always stop that flow—trust me on this one! It’s one of my life lessons! (My natal North Node is in Taurus in the 10th.)

When we have ideals that are in harmony with a compassionate and “flowing” universe, the resources are available to us. Miserliness and greed don’t seem to be part of natural law and the flow of the TAO.

On the other hand, we know that with abundance comes the responsibility of being good a caretaker of resources—acting modestly but not selfishly seems like good common sense. The question is whether or not we act in accordance with what is the highest and best within us. What attitude is in honor and in integrity? It involves compassion and sharing what we have with others when the opportunity presents itself.

The current debates in our country (United States) and throughout the world about finances and the economy bring forth an opportunity to examine our own feelings about finances, wealth, personal economic issues.

Today’s message brings forth the suggestion to examine our own attitudes about finances, prosperity and wealth and our relationship to others where money is concerned.

Relaxing one’s fearful attitudes and maintaining a hopeful and relaxed mind while neither hoarding nor being greedy helps us to stay in the flow that supports prosperity.

Today, the message is to take heart and know that we are all abundantly blessed and with that inward inspiration, outward manifestation becomes apparent. Is this a truth that you are living?

ASTROLOGY AND TAROT KEYWORD ASSOCIATIONS TO KUA 14/PROSPERITY

Ariesinitiation of action without fear; freedom; creating an identification structure

Taurus – money; value system; relates to 2nd house of “what is valued”

Cancer – feeling secure, safe, comforted (comfortable) and nurtured by life; emotional connections to safety; emotional immaturity

Leo – looking for validation outside of self; seeking outer world gratification and acknowledgment (in this case, through financial success as a validation of self-worth)

The Star – being hopeful and relaxing the mind; staying in the “flow”

The Sun – blessings; success; take heart; joyousness and happiness; universal blessings; the sun illuminates all things without judgment or preference—equality

Magician – outward manifestation of inward inspiration

Justice – making discriminating choices

The Emperor – achievement of goals; being responsible

Judgment – Living one’s inner truth; knowing we are more than our physical body and physical possessions; being receptive to the flow; awakening to over-indulgences

Daily Divination 7-12-11 Today is a good day to strengthen bonds in your group – I CHING Kua 13 Leo, Cancer, Aries, Taurus, Justice, The Emperor, Judgment, The Star, The Sun, The Magician

Be cheerful and nurturing to others today. Companionship, Socializing and Group Activity is being encouraged.

I’m flashing in memory to an old notebook that I found in the glove compartment of my old car. As soon as I see today’s Kua 13 message from the I CHING, I think of this. Within the writing of that little notebook were directives to create a psychic development class. I smiled when I saw that remembering how repeated messages came to do so and finally it was created. Frankly, I’d forgotten that.

The words “group” always makes me think of the psychic development class group and the Kua 13’s main message of friendliness, mutual respect, shared goals and strengthening bonds. The message today is to remember that we need one another. There is special warmth that comes from combining forces, or gathering together with others of like mind.

Today is a good day (no matter what day you read this with the understanding of simultaneous divine time) to spend time socializing with others in friendliness and with good will.

The astrological archetypes of Leo, Cancer, Aries and Taurus relate to Kua 13’s message. Leo is about being child-like and self-expressive. Cancer is about a family atmosphere and nurturing. Aries is about having the courage to embrace inter-dependence. And Taurus is about being self-reliant while merging with others. We can now see the astrological influences and how they relate to the “companionship” of this I CHING Kua.

The Tarot archetypes that correlate with this Kua are Justice (fairness), The Emperor (achievement), Judgment (opening up), The Star (optimism/meditation), The Sun (Light, joy and creativity), and the Magician (magical manifestation and communication).

BOTTOM LINE:  Work in a spirit of harmony or shared vision with others today in the spirit of shared goals. Ask the self how doing so could benefit both yourself and the group, family or community.

Cosmic Communiqué 6-22-11 Finding and Communicating Joy in Your Life! Kua 58, Gemini, Taurus, The Sun, The Star, The Magician

Today’s Cosmic Communiqué advises reflection upon the true source of joy.

The main difference between joy and pleasure is that joy comes from within, while pleasure comes from the outside world—mental and physical sense gratification.

We are able to maintain joy when we cultivate affection, consideration, respect and kindness toward others.  That, however, begins within the self first and then is consequently shared with others–joy shared is joy doubled!

Those who can reach a state of bliss in life do so, in my humble opinion, by understanding their own nature and the nature of reality Itself. And part of that includes understanding the past, incorporating it or integrating it so that it can be released (healing).  In that way,  freedom can be achieved. And that freedom creates an inner state which enables us to share this state of inner strength and joy with others.

When anxiety and discord are banished as a result of healing and integration of the past, what is realized is the true nature—joy—is found to be the core of one’s own being.  As this happens, Life is experienced differently– the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Taurus and Gemini are the correlating astrological archetypes. And The Star, The Sun, and The Magician archetypes of Tarot are the corresponding archetypes of today’s I CHING definition, Kua 58.

[Entering any of the following search terms–Taurus, Gemini, The Star, The Sun and The Magician—in the search window above/right will yield further information on these archetypes.]

Essentially, the Taurus archetype represents peace and tranquility and Gemini is about communicating—so putting a few keywords together, we could easily see the correlation to the I CHING Kua 58 of the day. This is in basic terms to “communicate peace and tranquility to others”. This is exactly the meaning of today’s message.

Star, Sun and Magic (Magician) are words with meanings which speak for themselves as far as archetypal symbols.

It’s those clichés that we hear all the time—release guilt about the past, forgive yourself and others, love yourself and be happy. I used to become borderline angry when I’d hear this kind of talk because I didn’t understand what steps were necessary. Is it simply as easy as changing your mind? This simmered for a long time while I searched for deeper understanding and actual steps to take—exactly how?  Reciting positive affirmations alone seemed like putting a Band-Aid over the question.  I needed to go deeper, as most people find that they do.

For me it involved learning about the mind, how it works exactly, going deeper into the study of the soul and the nature of reality. Buddhism and Hinduism studies (to name a few) have assisted me a good deal and then soul astrology provided some practical stepping-stones that were helpful.  And then there was a personal investigation of regression, integration,  and withdrawing projections–these types of inquiries.   Jungian Psychology and all the rest have provided valuable personal insight. These are topics that I write about often here in the blog and my weekly newsletters. Is this “the way” for everyone? I don’t know, but it’s been helpful for my spiritual alignment is all that I can share.  I don’t ‘do’ dogma very well–I study on my own, then observe and correlate with my life using discernment and intuition–that’s my way.

And what I hope is that my psychic, intuitive and channeling work with others aids them in receiving the right insight in the right timing for the next step on their path–whatever that might be. That is my intention in my work anyway.

One insight received at the right time can swing open the doors to the soul and reunion with or realignment with the Higher Self.  And that reunion, my friends, is what true joy has got to be about! How could it be otherwise?

It is only through insight that we can heal and transform and find true joy!

Daily Divination April 21, 2011 Be At One With The Infinite Sun!

After the rain.... the SUN!

Finally!  A happy card to inspire today’s cosmic communiqué!  For days in a row the messages have come from cards that are quite the opposite of The Sun.  It’s a welcome change and perfect example of Life Itself—always seeking homeostasis and equilibrium!  It’s like, “Take heart and hang in there, better days are always ahead.”  My mother, in her eldest years when simplicity of thought reigned, when asked what advice she’d have for younger folks going through difficult times said something very similar.

And I hear the song now… ♫  “The Sun’ll come out tomorrow, Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow there’ll be Sun, Just thinken’ about tomorrow, Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow ‘til there’s none…”

I flash to a memory of watching a parade—just being the observer and watching a parade go by.  Yes, I do love watching parades.  And the whole thought of observing life too.  That’s when I’m the happiest, you know, when my consciousness is firmly plugged into that place—the Observer.  That’s the celestial and the most divine or god-like attitude we can have in life I believe.  Non-attachment, no emotional charge with it at all, just operating from the “place of the Eternal Observer”… like watching the parade and enjoying it all from the sideline that way!

Then we truly get it—that we are more than the physical body and earth experiences.  It’s a lovely, Sunny place to be in the mind and heart, isn’t it?

Today’s divine messengers, working through me (or so goes my illusion) are bringing you these reminders today.

Sometimes I miss living in Florida because I am a Sun worshiper at heart.  Unlike the all too numerous gray days in the misty (sometimes foggy) mountains here, there was always a lot more Sun in Florida; there are days here that it takes the Sun until noon before it burns off the fog and mist of the day.

Anyway, the Sun’s energy loves and illumines all things equally without judgment… it would be wonderful if we all could be like the Sun in that way!

We have solar energy within us—as above, so below and our inner Sun is like our inner child.  It is the joyful and illuminated part of our selves.

Today’s message is about flowering, to be in the present moment, the Eternal Observer, living in the moment and experiencing to the fullest potential the everyday simple pleasures of life.  The divine messengers also remind us today to follow the heart’s path with faith, certainty and a joyful, childlike heart.

May you reach into your solar self today and feel the inner warmth of the Sun in all you do today!  Be at one with the Infinite Sun!
