A touch of fall is back in the air along with the bee-in-your-bonnet vocalizations and wall-banging sounds of my downstairs’ neighbors—yeah, they’re back. Well, that’s life isn’t it? I’m forced once again to stay present with what arises fighting the internal temptations to “do something” when nothing really can be done—our end of the building is constructed like a tent. Experiencing emotional distress is something that people try to escape through drugs, alcohol and yes, even meditation. Pema Chodron says that even long time meditation practitioners use meditation as a means of escaping difficult emotions. People even create a chronic disease to cover up their negativity. Let’s face it—it can be difficult to stay present with whatever arises. It’s not easy to stay with emotional distress despite the cause and be with the energy without judgment or self-punishment in order to go beneath it and find the deeper self. It’s not easy to fully experience the intense emotions and stay with them neither acting out nor repressing them. Well, that’s life in the big city—there’s always something as grist for the spiritual mill.
There was a brief moment late yesterday when I was walking toward my apartment. Yet another Indian couple moved into the building in the front apartment. I could hear him inside of my car with my windows up as soon as I shut off the engine. At first I didn’t know where the voice (s) were coming from but then I saw him lying on the floor (most Indians have no furniture), cell phone to his hear shouting into it and a female voice (although I did not see her) shouting over his. Charming!
It was a wonderful swim yesterday and I promise that I really do have to fight myself to get out of the pool once I’m in! And one hour and 15 minutes is a long swim but I do wish I could grow a set if gills and could remain in water—it’s so quiet under water but then there I go looking for an escape again.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how people use spirituality and meditation as an escape, but I’m also thinking about my daughter’s wedding—the time is fast approaching. Better get going so that I can work some more on the gift project I’m making and then back to the pool for another workout. But another thought on escape–more like reprieve actually. When a client calls for a reading, I’m totally not here in this apartment when I’m working on those levels; even if the lawn maintenance people are outside with a mower or leaf blower, barely hear it. In that sense my work doing psychic readings by phone is wonderful temporary relief–more than that. A gift! Now that I put it in those terms, how many people think of their work that way? I’m grateful.
Thinking of that project again… I’m learning to accept myself on yet another level; I’m not the artistic type with paint and brush and such. One does one’s best and one hopes that it’s the thought that counts after all is said and done.
Nice breezes and around 70 degrees and sunny and as I look out, the trees dancing in the wind seem to be calling me into the open air. As I look around the living room /slash/ den area here I’m pleased with my recent furniture arrangement and it reminds me of the nice weekend it was with my neighbors gone.
Of all people, I came out of the place where I’m working on my daughter’s wedding gift only to find her call out to me! Talk about energy merging! She was having lunch right next door with one of her brides maids—“I thought that was your car mom!”
I have placed my Happy Buddha wood carving at the top of my stairs on a little table stand and as I look up coming up the stairs I see him, reminding me that this apartment should be a happy place, not a place of suffering. This seems so much easier to accept when the neighbors are gone. And speaking of gone, it’s time for me to go while wishing you a wonderful Wednesday September 4th—seventeen more days to the wedding.
This card reminds me of the blog post from the other day about making plans and about astrology and exactly that: Divine Timing. I love that astrology gives us more than a hint of divine timing. For example, take my daughter’s upcoming wedding this month—her PROGRESSED NEW MOON is in her 7TH HOUSE OF RELATIONSHIPS right when she’s getting married! yeah, new beginning in relationships is what astrology would predict and there she is getting married—after a long engagement! 🙂 “To every thing there is a season, turn, turn, turn; And a time for every purpose under heaven” — if your not too young to remember that song. And that’s Divine Timing—apply this insight to whatever troubles you right now, and if it’s nothing–there ‘s divine timing for that too, so smile. 🙂
How much power and control do we have to create our reality? What about karma? Life lessons?
And what the “haves” say to the “have not’s”
Lo! I do struggle with that one just a bit more than some—from what I’ve observed it’s the “have not’s” who are more concerned with this question. The “have’s” just go about having and don’t think about it much I suppose—well, maybe they do and that’s why they “have” in the first place. OR having or not having is not their karma in this lifetime—maybe it’s something else their soul struggles with. Hey, we’ve all got our own personal bug-a-boo I suppose. I’ve worked with many clients who have plenty of money—an excess in fact—and you should see what their worries are! To us “have-not’s” those things can appear pretty laughable and to us their so-called problem seems easily manageable, but I have to be careful not to minimize their dilemma any more than I like the “have’s” to minimize my “have not” issues.
I do notice though that those “have’s” who want to give me some type of “have not” advice almost always come from a place of having daddy’s inheritance, a hard-hard working and high-income producing life partner, or live on huge retirement benefits–those types of things… I’m just sayen’. I try to be patient. They mean well but usually don’t understand or even if they did once, they’ve forgotten.
It’s simple—make a plan, create your reality, affirm your will—right? Yes. And; No. There’s the laws of karma and causality and energy that must play out no matter what you affirm or how much will you demonstrate. Yeah, I hear ya’. If that’s what you believe, you say, then that’s what you will experience. I know all that but I’m talking about what some would call “Divine Timing” or what in Tarot Card language we’d call the “Wheel of Fortune” card or perhaps we could use the word “destiny”. Astrology is my new ‘thang’ more-or-less lately (besides swimming) and more than anything else it explains things like… well, that classic book entitled, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” Essentially, one can see the karmic patterns and the timing of the events and what the soul is learning which ‘splains quite a bit and helps one work with the soul’s plan rather than making one of one’s own and working against it.
Do we make a plan or go with the flow
Someone says, “Well, make a plan”, and I laugh because …. Well, what’s that line, “… best laid plans of mice and men”… tell the Universe your plans and make the gods laugh.
I have faith and trust that The Divine Assistants know our mind and heart ‘help us to help ourselves’. And believing that we do have that assistance working on our behalf, I am assured.
Yet I’ve also realized that we are here working through the energies that have already been set into motion so that the best plan we can make (if we make one) is to find the way to be at peace with “what is”–and that’s not easy task some days! Our heart’s desire is the plan and if we trust that while having faith that the path will be cleared and the way will be shown and known to us in exactly the right timing, this is the best we can do until the energy shifts to align with those intentions and the soul plan.
Like the old saying goes–make your intention and express your will and then let go, and let god.
That last step, surrender, is what us “have not’s” get pretty good at over time—something the “have’s” may no nothing about.
Or maybe they do.
Meanwhile, as a “have not”, I usually flow with whatever happens while holding the general outcome desired in the mind and heart, following guidance daily as it comes–for me its the best way to fly. If you ask if I am making a plan, that’s my answer–it’s worked thus far.
The astrological alignment of four planets in astrology called The Grand Cross (to my mind) is like one of the final scenes in the movie trilogy THE MATRIX.
Venus is opposing Uranus and squaring Jupiter which is opposing Pluto, so squaring both!
What does it mean when Venus engages with all these big player planets?
Relating with others intensifies!
One way or another and it’s building right now, it looks like some things (likely issues involving money, power, freedom and control in relationships) are going to get challenged, squared away and hopefully resolved over the next few weeks in people’s personal lives.
More specific you say? It could be like this: faith and beliefs (Jupiter) squares freedom and liberation (Uranus).
And your values (Venus) are challenged so that Transformation on some level (Pluto) happens.
You already feel it, you must! What is a hot issue in your life right now?
Something around that gets sacrificed on your personal Grand Cross over these next few weeks.
Some thing or some one is going to be released for your evolutionary benefit! So that PEACE can be achieved.
When I think of the Grand Cross configuration in astrology, I always think of that final scene in the Matrix wherein Neo, THE ONE, is asked “What do you want?” and he answers, “Peace”.
That’s how I understand the purpose of a Grand Cross!
For each of us the energy of the next few weeks will play out differently but it will involve the archetype of Venus in some way and how Venus is placed in your birth chart as well as the Nodes of the Moon (karmic past and evolutionary intent of your soul). The various Venus energy archetypes include: love, relationships, values, money to name a few and the other archetypes of the signs and houses it rules (2nd, 7th, Taurus, Libra).
Hang on snoopy; the next few weeks could get interesting!
FEED YOUR SUN TO ENHANCE YOUR LIFE FORCE AND TO FEEL STRONG, HAPPY, ENERGIZED
The Sun Sign is like a key which enables us to turn it to reach a particular channel of consciousness that vitalizes our essence physically, mentally and spiritually. A weak Sun enables us to fall apart easily, feel physically weak, disoriented and depressed. We need the Sun, the Light to energize our heart–our spirit here. When our Sun is healthy we feel strong and able to handle the challenges of life. We should each know what it is that nourishes us and helps us feel our own power—and astrology can help us. We should know and study the sign of our Sun and that’s the reason for today’s post!
I will list each Sun sign and a line or two about what you need to nourish your body, mind and soul to keep yourself healthy and energized—we should know how to feed our Sun; how to bring more Light into our body, mind and spirit so that we can feel happy here!
The Sun is thought to be Male energy—the animus as Jung called it. Our Sun is our Life Force (as above, so below)–it’s our Prana and it helps us with our creative expression here. More basically it is what produces our will to live and so we should know how to nourish it.
Nourishing (feeding) our Sun is what helps us to feel confident and it is different for each of us, based on our birth data.
Almost everyone knows their Sun sign but if you don’t, I will include the list of signs with dates below. This list isn’t intended to be all inclusive—this is just off the top of my head so-to-speak mentioning some of the key points that come to mind about each Sun which my own Libra Sun needs to do in order to feel energized an purposeful i.e. “relating”. Anyway, here we go…
SUN IN ARIES (born March 21 – April 20)
You need fire and to express courage and a pioneering spirit and be out front or first in anything you do. Any activity that encourages such things will feed your Sun and help your life force sparkle and shine brighter. You need excitement and to try new things—as many as you can even if you don’t follow up with everything you start, you need those exciting “new starts” often and in some form in order to feed your Sun and help you feel confident and alive .
SUN IN TAURUS (born April 21 – May 20)
You need earth and to express your very practical ideas in any way that you can. You are good at handling resources and expressing this skill helps you to feed your life force and feel confident. When you work with money/finances you shine just like you do when you express your strong tastes in creating beauty with earth resources. When you care for your physical needs and comforts, you energize your body, mind and spirit.
SUN IN GEMINI (born May 21 – June 21)
You need air, mental, thought to energize your sense of dualism—and when you can hold two views at the same time or unite two sets of opposites, this helps you to feel confident and powerful. When you allow yourself to use your natural born gift of observation and combine that with words in any way—shazam, you are really rocking and feeling your light grow brighter. Mental stimulation in any way, shape or form energizes you and when you talk about things this too helps body, mind and spirit unite—expressing yourself does it for you and helps you feel vital and alive.
SUN IN CANCER (born June 22 – July 22)
Water, emotions and security are the key words here that feed this Sun and help people in this sign feel strong and vital. Home, family and tradition and things to do with the past help you feel a sense of purpose that enlivens your body, mind and soul. Building a sense of home and doing that groundwork for that purpose feeds your sun and helps you feel more powerful, confident and alive – you take the past and create a self-image from that making an identity that helps you feel more yourself. When you care for others and protect and nurture them, this feeds your own Sun—your life force. If you don’t use your deep feelings to care for others, you feel more vulnerable and loose energy; however, if your home or security are threatened this enables you to find your Sun and call upon your own natural inner strength making you aware of it and this ultimately enables you to feel more alive, confident and purposeful.
SUN IN LEO (born July 23 – Aug 22, 23)
This person needs fire, passion and awareness of self and feels enlivened when in any kind of central position or at the core of anything that is going on. If this type of individual is not feeling popular with others, it can dampen the spirit and it’s like put a blanket over their life force. The person born under this Sun will feel the need to reach the pinnacle of achievement in some area but must also remember to have fun so that work and pleasure are in equal measure—if not, the life force depletes and the Sun is not being fed. There is a susceptibility to flattery from others until this individual can learn how to nourish their own Sun by self-acceptance and true self-awareness.
SUN IN VIRGO (born August 23, 23 – September 22, 23)
Humility, compassion and modesty and an urge to be of service and make a significant difference in the world in a hands-on and grounded way that is practical and useful; this is what feeds and nourishes the body, mind and spirit of those born under the Virgo Sun. Other Sun signs can take advantage of the service oriented Virgo nature who likes to work behind the scenes. Satisfaction comes from giving attention to details and by pursuing a natural interest in healing—those activities feed the Virgo Sun helping this individual feel confident and vital.
SUN IN LIBRA (born September 23, 24 – October 22, 23)
The emphasis here is on non-self or the ‘other’ and on anything air related such as writing, speaking and in any way ‘relating’. When the person born under this sign is uniting with others in some way there comes a feeling of wholeness and balance and harmony. A person born under this Sun has a consideration of other people’s feelings, such as even if this person is expressing anger it is on behalf of another rather than self. The Libra soul really has a strong need to justice and fair play and working for the benefit of others is what enables this soul to be energized and feel confident and vital.
SUN IN SCORPIO (born October 23, 24 – November 22)
The person born under this Sun has an urge to fight an conquer foes whether real or imagined and the need is to slay a dragon of some type and so here feeling the power of tenacity makes on feel alive and vital. There’s an innate need for passion and sometimes engaging in activities to the point of obsession but this level of intensity is needed in order to feed body, mind and soul. If the person can dig deeply for the truth even to the point of doing research in some way to find the deep bottom-line answer, then the life force is energized. Anything involving psychology and learning about the motivations of others helps the person born under this sign to feel vital, alive and generally purposeful which feeds their life force.
SUN IN SAGITTARIUS (born November 23 – December 21, 22, 23)
Expansion of the solar forces to their fullest potential happen with those born under the Sag Sun and there needs to be a wide field or area for this person to express their life force energy. Here we have individuals who have a huge abundance of tolerance naturally and when this is being expressed, the Sag person feels that sense of purpose being fulfilled. Honesty, freedom and optimism and cheerfulness need to be allowed expression in order for the person born under this Sun to feel confident and vitally alive. The naturally restless spirit of the Sag Sun individual is soothed by experiencing some type of adventure and having an expression of freedom in their life in some way. Teaching helps someone born in Sag to feel vitally alive, purposeful and thus feeds that life force, their Sun. Travel or planning a trip is also something that a Sagittarius can do in order to feed their Sun!
SUN IN CAPRICORN (born December 22, 23, 24 – January 20)
The Sun’s rays are usually weaker during these months but inside this individual there is a quiet drive that is powerfully present and needs feeding. Anything requiring tenacity and determination will feed the body, mind and spirit of this individual. This person needs a goal and something to master in some field or endeavor and has what it takes to endure hardship and to overcome obstacles and when these hardships and obstacles are overcome, the life force is revitalized. There is purpose on the path of overcoming life that feeds this person’s body, mind and spirit. This Capricorn Sun needs responsibility and can thrive on it!
SUN IN AQUARIUS (born January 21 – February 19)
The person born under this Sun thrives on cooperation with others; and without it their life force fades and wanes. Personal satisfaction comes from considering others first and in fact self-promotion diminishes one’s feeling of power and confidence. Sharing with others and humanitarian concerns rule this individuals deepest inner desires and help one feel the life is being well-lived and furthers the feelings of brotherhood and friendship that keep this Sun fed. Technology is also a place wherein a person born under this sign can shine and feel confident and purposeful; so developing technical skill helps one feel like shining even brighter especially if the technology enhances other people’s welfare.
SUN IN PISCES (born 2/20 – 3/20)
The solar forces are probably the weakest here in those born under this sign. Yet, in times of adversity, the solar spark ignites and inner strength asserts itself. Here we can see folks who can be very resistant but in a very passive way but the resistance can be arduous and formidable. The person born under this sign feels confidence and life force grow when expressing adaptability, tolerance and compassion. If the person born under a Pisces Sun works on behalf of those less fortunate this generally motivates their life. So, therefore, charity work and healing work are of benefit in feeding the Sun of those born under Pisces. The thing here is that the individual is basically very kind but others perceive this as weakness and then take advantage; therefore, boundaries are crucial for those born under this Sun Sign. If anything in the arts using imagination are pursued (music, dancing, etc.) this can feed the Sun here since those born with a Pisces Sun have a strong imagination. Grounding, naturally, is something that should be balanced with the imaginative nature.
I hope this little list will help you to know how to feed your own Sun and also for you to know a bit about how to help your family and friends enhance their life force as well.
PERSONAL INTENTION AND PRAYER:
May this information reach the right people and the right time in order to make a positive difference in their life and may their life force be energized beyond measure for the good of all.
It’s the middle of the summer eclipse season 2013! Lunar! Solar! Partial! Full! Whatever! A one word can suffice: change. Yeah, okay. But what kind and what for and what to do about it? Well, how its playing out in each of our lives can be somewhat different but the main theme is change. So, it all started in April with the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio; so a Scorpio Moon; check your schedules, journals, calendars or reflect back to the 25th of April during that full Moon. (I did and see a theme developing with finances; not surprising when we’re dealing with Scorpio and the opposite polarity Taurus. They rule the 2nd and 8th zodiac houses of our money/other people’s money—generally speaking as a huge over-simplified theme. Survival, values, self-worth and issues of power/control and these types of categories—that’s what we’re talking about, if we’re getting thematic and we are.
TECHNICAL—SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU’RE NOT ‘INTO’ ASTROLOGY: Most people don’t know these details about themselves but I’ll mention anyway that if anyone has planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius that are between 1 and 11 degrees, that this energy will be most deeply felt. Why? Because this upcoming Full Moon Eclipse on the 25th of May happens at 5 degrees and is triggering the lot of any planets in those signs and in those degrees via aspects or angles, that’s why.
But even if you don’t know those details, everyone has transiting Saturn (in Scorpio) and Mars (in Taurus) triggered at that time. So, you’re effected with or without knowledge of your planets, houses or signs. But knowledge is power, so let’s continue.
Although I just said that I’d leave myself out of it, Saturn in Scorpio brought (for me) deep emotional sadness (my brother had just died) and other emotions had me initiating (Mars) some new ideas about monetary survival concerns (Taurus). I’m sharing this for the purposes of helping others understand their own astrological eclipse energy as I try to figure this thing out myself. What is the message that is being given to us by the universe this eclipse season?
Eclipses can suddenly expose a hidden problem and are like the ‘wild cards’ of the zodiac which can bring up stressful emotions, chaotic events or they can be very positive and exciting. I’m sure there are those who feel little or no effect at all. Why so? Well, it depends on whether or not those signs relate to something significant in the natal chart triggering the soul’s karmic past or evolutionary goal—some eclipses do and others don’t. Just because someone experiences an eclipse season as mild, doesn’t indicate some type of spiritual advancement. Besides, let’s face it. If we got hit intensely and heavily with each and every single eclipse, chances are we’d be overwhelmed—that’s why we have something called ‘time’ to slow it all down for us. So, wipe the grin off your face if you are not being affected by this particular eclipse, there’s always next year!
My Natal North and South Nodes are being hit by this eclipse season so my soul’s karmic past and evolutionary intention are really being shaken. Last year, the summer eclipses (in which I relocated from the mountains to this apartment complex down mountain) occurred I the signs Gemini-Sagittarius. One archetype of this zodiac axis relates to short trips and travel—that axis in my natal chart occurs in 5-11, the archetypes of children (5th) and the clan/community (11th). I’m in the community now “fer’ shure” as we used to say it in the 80’s. I moved into this apartment complex where my children live. And I did so last year between the May 20th and June 4th eclipse. My move in date was the 21st of May last year, 2012. So all that Gemini-Sag eclipse stuff that last year is being mentioned here as an example of how an eclipse season can work. Let’s get current–it’s now one year later, May 9, 2013.
So much for history; let’s return to the NOW. Scorpio – Taurus is where we’re at for this years eclipse season encore. And for me triggers more family/career stuff since in my life, the natal nodes are in the 4-10 house axis. Again, if you are born with personal planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius; then you’re being affected.
My whole generation is feeling the effects of this eclipse since all people born in the Pluto in Leo generation which is roughly between the years of 1940 and 1957 are affected by these eclipses in Taurus/Scorpio via the square; especially if their Pluto is within orb or between 1 and 11 degrees Leo.
Oh, I may be getting too technical. We’re just talking about what issues can cause concern when we look at the signs and houses that an eclipse affects.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SOLAR AND LUNAR ECLIPSE?
ANSWER: Just as a general rule of thumb, solar eclipses are more external dealing with outer world events while the lunar eclipses are more emotional and internal.
So let’s go back to April 25th. We checked the calendar/journal/schedule and reflected back to that last week or so of April a moment ago—was that more internal or external for you? We feel intensely emotional about something and that can result in taking the bull-by-the-horns so to speak and initiating an external event. I was re-thinking my whole approach to things at that time due to some emotional unrest and as a result did initiate a few outer world experiences. I will leave the details to your imagination.
Eclipses have a profound effect on a person’s life—at least potentially depending upon what other planets it triggers. The tension may last only a few weeks; however the change that happens in that period can last a lifetime.
Take, for example, the eclipse season of last summer as it relates to my own life. The move closer to my family—definitely true that things that have happened this past year did affect my life and the lives of my family and the affects likely will last a lifetime i.e. our relationships, memories and all of that. So there’s a good example. The intensity of the move—the packing up and moving in took weeks but the change? Well, pretty dramatic.
Eclipses can illuminate areas of one’s life—like shining a light on the person, the path bringing into awareness something that beforehand was not being noticed. We could say something like removing a blind spot! I think that’s a good way to phrase it. Whatever has been pushed to one side or shoved under the carpet becomes obvious. Sometimes I think of eclipses as earthquakes—especially after last summer as well as the current energy.
Today’s eclipse (May 9th 2013) is Solar and this Sun/Moon conjunction is closely (as mentioned earlier) merged with Mercury, Mars and most importantly the South Node. So past life or even this current lifetime’s past memories and past actions (Karma possibly-?) is being illuminated revealing, once again, possible blind spots.
The next eclipse of this series is another Lunar Eclipse and occurs on May 25 on the full Moon. There are two eclipse seasons every year – lunar eclipses are the byproducts of any given solar eclipse. Therefore, the eclipse ahead of us on the 25th (Full Moon Lunar eclipse) is the byproduct of today’s New Moon Solar Eclipse.
Today’s Solar Eclipse may bring events that we have not consciously precipitated or triggered and then the consequential upcoming Full Moon Lunar eclipse on the 25th will be associated with events brougth about by our own thoughts and feelings.
Let me end with a quote from astrologer Dena DeCastro’s (www.denadecastro.com) recent newsletter to give us more of an idea about this eclipse season. Her comments echo other astrologers all of whom are saying essentially the same thing. About this eclipse season Dena wrote:
“We’re being invited to confront our fears, and to let go of the things we’ve held on to – habits, ideas, material things – that makes us feel secure. And, that’s the South Node in Taurus: we are learning to release attachment to some things that have allowed us to be comfortable for a while. The evolutionary condition is that, as a whole, we have become too comfortable, cozy, sleepy. Inertia has set in (shadow side of Taurus). Scorpio medicine invites us to surrender to what feels out of our control. For example, intense emotions, maybe long suppressed, may be coming to the surface now. Or, you might find that you can no longer avoid doing that thing you are passionate about, but have been so afraid to do. If you don’t know what that is yet, don’t worry. Another year and a half of North Node in Scorpio will likely reveal it to you. But you must be willing to look beneath the surface of things, to confront fears, and to ride the wave rather of change rather than fighting it. ~ So these themes and lessons are brought to the surface each time the eclipses occur in the Taurus/Scorpio polarity, particularly heightened in the two weeks leading up to and away from the eclipses. We are in such a time frame currently, which began in early April and goes through the early part of June. In my life, it has been a challenging time, full of Scorpionic themes. I touched on some of these in my previous newsletter. As I look at the lives of those closest to me, and events in the world around me, I see many of us being pushed out of the inertia state of shadow-Taurus toward confronting uncomfortable, even frightening, realities. Through being awakened to the things we usually don’t like to consider, however, we are provided the opportunity to gain wisdom and the ability to find the true sources of our own power.”—end quote, Dena DeCastro
I hope this post helps someone out there to hang on with chin up! As mom used to say, “This too shall pass” and as I say, “I can go through anything if I know why and how long it’s likely to last!”
Maybe by next month, if we don’t get it right now, we will be able to look back on this time period of 3 eclipses April 25 thru May 25th and figure it all out! Here’s to eclipses (raising my coffee cup to the air and not spilling a drop) and may the force be with you.
I hope that we all receive some positive changes through this intense time period and I hope for you that your experiences are the intensely happy kind. May the odds be ever in your favor!
My first thought when I drew the paper with number 32 out of the basket today and read the words associated with this practice was to recoil and to think, “Wait, I don’t do that!” Following which I knew this must be a “biggie” if I had such a strong adverse reaction. “You’d better look closer at this one Joy!” was the next thought.
I turned to the commentary by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche to help with this. I think my problem was that I interpreted the wording of the original root text that read, “…if you point out the faults of another Bodhisattva…” That brought to mind the Dalai Lama or Kwan Yin or even someone like the 17th Karmapa or any of the Rinpoche’s or Lamas or even Buddhist nuns—take Pema Chodron and the like. I revere, admire and venerate teachers of this nature; I can’t imagine ever criticizing any of them. I honestly sat stupefied and then solemn for a moment and deeply inquired if I’ve criticized other Bodhisattvas.
Well, maybe Christians who still tend to irk the jesus out of me, pardon the pun. I admit that I’m still healing the wound from prior life religious persecutions—but of course it is just mind latching onto an identity as one who was supposedly persecuted. I get that intellectually and sometimes emotionally but not when the wound takes a direct hit. Okay, okay—let’s say I’m working on that. It’s a little bit difficult for me to see a Christian practitioner as a Bodhisattva but maybe I need to reconsider that.
Meanwhile, back to what Khenpo Tsultrim says about practice 32… he links this to The Seven Points of Mind Training. The Buddhist seem to have a lot of numbers associated with their teachings: the 3 this, the 4 that, the 6 this and the 7 that. Probably a good way to memorize teachings!
Anyway, Khenpo Tsultrim says that one stanza in The Seven Points of Mind Training directs the reader to think that all positive qualities belong to other sentient beings and that all faults are one’s own. This is the correct attitude. [that will develop humility for sure!] Generally, most people think just the opposite: someone else is always wrong, while they are always right. This attitude is to be given up. Patrul Rinpoche advises students to acknowledge their own deficiency first; and then, when they recognize it in someone else, to pray that the guru grants blessings to them both. It is always beneficial to see that the perceived fault in yourself is greater than it is in the other. Then you know that person is no different from you. [I highlighted what I felt where the most important points there.]
Oh Lordie, I do see how I worry/am concerned about one of my family members and their relationship to money and that this fault is greater in myself.
The Dalai Lama spoke on each of the 37 practices of a bodhisattva and he wrote one line very succinctly which says it all, “We must try to conquer our own illusions rather than those we ‘think’ we see in others.”—pg 101, Essential Teachings
Most of what I come up with while investigating the meaning of practice 32 relates to infighting amongst various schools of Buddhism criticizing each other or student’s critiquing other students or teachers.

Through examining this practice as it applies to my own life experience I can see how I am repulsed and disgusted with Christians to are always quoting scriptures. Yet, am I not right here and now quoting Buddhist scriptures in the same way?
Buddhist teachings are helping me a good deal but I must remember that Christian teachings are in the same way helping those humans who, like me, are only hoping to be better humans and grow and evolve and become a better compassionate and loving soul—a bodhisattva!
Oh, and on that relationship to money thing… better go look at the bills I’ve been avoiding looking at and work on ‘my own’ illusion!
And this little piggy went….. all the way (not home) to the Urgent Medical Care Center
I had a few head’s up which I apparently… well, the first one I mis-interpreted (darn dreams anyway!) and the second one? Ignored! And the third one shrugged away.
I roared laughing at as I buddy wrapped it this morning. What’s that little rhyme? “Poor little piggy”, I thought. All red and the left half of the foot all black and blue, “poor little piggy.”
I had a dream around the time that the downstairs Indian neighbors got my full attention with their yelling and door slamming—between the 7th and 14th. Rarely do I dream specific dates like that. Maybe it was wishful thinking that I attributed the 14th as the date one of them was leaving – I thought it was her. I’ve been holding out hope that this would happen. Instead, something else happened! Dude, really? It certainly did—at least in my apartment. What happened in there’s—don’t know and don’t care. All I know is that last night the Hindu chants to Ganesh played on low volume on the desktop computer in my room until 4 am and no bad dreams for the 2nd night in a row.
Anyway, I wrote something about it yesterday morning—I think on Facebook—something about well, it’s the 14th and nothing has changed downstairs. I glanced at my transits in my astrology software program over the weekend and there is Saturn sitting right on top of the wounded healer Chiron—EXACT DEGREE AND MINUTE CONJUNCTION when my little accident happened.
Yeah, I’m looking at it right now 10 degrees 29 minutes: exact conjunction to the minute of Saturn with Chiron! Yeah, don’t you know that Saturn rules THE BONES and Chiron is the wounded healer asteroid or comet-oid or whatever they call him these days. Pretty clear indication of a possible bone wound, eh? Both in Scoprio of course (WHY NOT GET PLUTO INVOLVED!?)
Well, if you’re going to have an accident with your bone crushed, best you have it in your own bedroom rather out on the highway somewhere. As usual, it could always be worse—love that phrase, and it’s true—it always could!
I was waiting for my sister to come from work to go with me to the emergency room or somewhere for an X-ray to confirm what I already knew—broken. Shattered or comminuted (spiral fracture) was not suspected by me, but don’t we love those additional details? Ha ha.
I looked at my feet generally and remembered the message. For days now I kept hearing in my mind—better do those toenails!
And dealt with that one this way… “Later, and besides, it’s not exactly sandal weather. I’m always wearing socks. So, later.”
I really had to laugh as I sat there clipping, filing and polishing my toenails in that state of shock and pain. Why didn’t I listen to my Self telling myself to do a pedicure?! Ah well, that’s how it goes, doesn’t it? It all makes sense AFTER the fact, right?
FLASH: I’ve now learned to walk backwards since it hurts much less that way and besides I can look down at my recently polished toes that I slapped polish over in a rush while in pain and laugh!
I’ve wanted to go home as anyone who reads my blog knows—you and my Facebook friends know that. But laying on my bed yesterday afternoon as Saturn and Chiron were having their meeting in the sky and I was going into ‘shock and awe’ on my bed, I was glad then that I wasn’t alone up on the mountain.
Instead, my grandson was only 5 doors down, my granddaughter due to walk in the door within hours and the rest of the family would be home from work only a little bit later. My whole family was here to help and that was a reassuring fact that very much outweighed my desire to return to the mountains at that moment!
THIS MORNING: I had to cut the tape that the guy at the Emergency Center applied last night because the swelling overnight caused the tape to be too tight increasing the throbbing pain. I soaked my foot in ice water first in my handy-dandy bucket and as I cut the old tape and went to apply the new, I nearly grew faint thinking of how that little toe was just hanging way out to the side of my foot there after I banged it against the bed frame support. As usual I was rushing—haste makes waste—and in changing the sheets on my bed, I wasted my pinky toe, crushing the bone in some place and breaking it clean off in another!
“Poor pinky”, I said as I apologized to it for what I did to it—on the predicted 14th of January, and without a pedicure, and with Saturn conjunct Chiron to the exact degree and minute!—“poor little toe!” As I buddy-taped my little pinkies toe to the next toe over carefully and apologetically a short time ago, I thought… “What is it we’d say to the babies when they were little? How does that little rhyme go?”
And then laughing out loud and remembering the strong growing desire to go home to the mountains since a loud Indian neighbor couple moved in below me, I remembered it: “… and THIS little piggy went wee, wee, wee, wee, wee all the way home!”
Like I’ve always said, the Universe has a sense of humor! that little piggy went (not home) but the the Emergency Center!
PS – at least it’s my left foot and I can still drive. I have a huge boot I’m supposed to wear which seems like a bit of overkill but since my apartment is upstairs, probably not a bad idea to wear it sometimes. I sure don’t want to bang it up any further, sore enough as it is and shattered into pieces.
MORE FOR ASTROLOGERS –– I don’t know if Saturn conjunct Chiron means a broken to the point of crushed bone for everybody else on the planet but it sure manifested that way for me! In case you’re an astrologer and interested, transiting Saturn makes the conjunction to Chiron (which is also conjunct to Mercury natally) in the 3rd house—wanting to ‘go home’ would be a short journey of about 2 hours so in that way we could see the 3rd house relation to the Mercury, Gemini, Scorpio, Saturn, Chiron blend due to the disharmony of the neighbors (Libra on the cusp of the 3rd) and Venus in Libra is also in the 3rd.
The transiting North Node (Scorpio) is currently upon my natal South Node in the 4th house and within 1 degree of an exact conjunction. Now that I look at the transit chart, when this happened, the Moon was in Pisces when this happened making a conjunction with Transiting Chiron in Pisces.
And now I have to go elevate my foot which is throbbing again despite the ice bucket dipping that I’m doing as I type.
The doc at the Emergency Care said I did a great job breaking my toe—you really smashed it and broke it off says he! But then again, if you’re going to do something, I thought, may as well do a real big bang-up job of it.
I saw the Xray. I did. 😦 Poor piggy…. and yeah, I think i got the message… OM darn it OM… i got the message. Shouldn’t go live alone in the mountains! I get it. I guess. Yeah, okay I GET IT!
WARNING: this is a vent; read at your own risk. Awakening at 3:30 AM
So anyway. Okay. That’s probably IT. Neighbor karma! And they say if you don’t fight against the karmic consequences; that is if you accept without resistance, this releases the karma.
Are they butchering their own meat for dinner with a chain saw? Or grinding up ice cubes in a blender to make frozen margaritas to get drunk on? Or shoving what they can shove down the electric garbage disposal? You have to love the way they yell right over the top of the noise—even when the grinding sound isn’t happening and they are within two feet of one another—yelling at the top of their lungs! What’s that about, huh? Say, What!?!!?? If you are Indian (from the country of India – not to be confused with Native Americans), please ask yourself why you scream at the top of your lungs when it isn’t necessary?
Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it? This ain’t no monastery and (that’s not all!). Besides that…
I can’t get no… I can’t get no…. I can’t get no… SATISFACTION! (Rolling Stones)
Remember back in the mountains when the new neighbor massacred an acre of perfectly healthy and happy trees displacing numerous trees and deer and birds, et al –? (I’m talking to long time followers of my blog.) There was a disturbance in the force – a horrid ripping up of the pre-peaceful energy field – it felt terrible. Awoke to that same feeling at 3:19 AM! Voices shouting—a woman’s voice! NO, don’t tell me they’re at each other again downstairs.
Lovely! The young people in the next building were on their patio whooping, hooting and hollering to the silence of the night. Humans around here are just blowing off steam, releasing their stresses is the guess. Why oh why does this particular kingdom of beings (human kingdom) who have the most advanced brain potential on the planet act like dogs? No, dogs are much more intelligent; they bark for a reason; at least most of the time. Unfortunately, this same level of intelligence is not able to be attributed (at least by me) to the downstairs Indian neighbors and the young “drunk-at-3:30 AM-hooting-into-the-trees-neighbors” who live in the next building a mere 30 feet from the one we’re in. Watch out! There’s competition for the human idiot of the weekend prize around here—the Indian couple below me now has competition.
Come to think of it, I’ve always had neighbor issues (karma?) even back into my late teenage years. The man in the house next door used to stand on is porch (only feet from bedroom window) and call his little black dog named “sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooH-TEEeeeeeeee”, correctly spelled “sooty” until I wanted to pull my hair out! Then years later there was the neighbor who would send her son to my house to play soon as she got home from work so she could entertain her latest boyfriend. And then we had the old couple who… well, never mind. Yeah, neighbor karma.
Maybe they (downstairs Indian couple) got some message yesterday—who knows? Loud Indian People, I’ll say it again–Loud Indian People! Well, let’s start with Friday night; they always come back from Monsters, Inc. (Lowe’s Headquarters) on Friday nights really geeked up and louder than any of the other days of the week. I was into my writing when they blasted in downstairs, their voices escalating as the night wore on. I tried to be tolerant—obviously another bad day or week for them and they’re fighting about it again. I put my headset on and piped into my ears via my headset the meditation and relaxation music that I’d spent hours ripping off CD’s last week. I was prepared!
Go ahead freakazoid Indian peeps! I’m prepared. Can you believe that over certain music –which I had playing full blast as loud as it the volume will go—that I could still hear them at certain times?
I was writing the lesson on astrological elements and modalities—earth, air, water, fire and cardinal, fixed and mutable signs. The lesson I was writing was a bit complicated to explain so to keep my focus, keep myself sane and to keep my sense of humor, when they’d yell out below me, I’d yell back that the male part of the couple has won the biggest mouth of the week award and I congratulated him duly and properly in my own language to match their voice volume (loud) while they barely took a breath, not listening to a word! Not that they could hear a thing over their non-stop vocal drama. She would wail out in a long vocal diatribe on occasion and at the same volume, I’d hoot and holler back in response that unfortunately, try as she might, she wasn’t nearly as obnoxious as her male counterpart although at times it was rather close. Then I’d wish her better luck for next week and go back to my typing certain they did not hear a word over their own vocalizations. Did you ever hear pig calling? No. Really. It’s a sport in certain parts of the American’s—they have pig calling contests. I really think this Indian couple should enter; they’d win@! — hey, don’t judge me; this blog and that are my ways of DEALING.
I can’t imagine what the heck they’re grinding down there but from the shouting, it’s getting pretty exciting for them right now.
Yesterday morning I played an hour of Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche for their listening pleasure (and mine). She may have (who can know for sure?) out talked them putting them into a more quiet trance for the rest of the day. Who knows really since I made it a point to be out most of the day with the family—it was my grandson’s birthday. But before I left, their voices were subdued. Thank you Rinpoche!
There’s the Mindrolling Monastery in India. Do theses Monkey Mumbai’s (as I lovingly call them) know about it I wonder? It’s located in the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehra Dun in North India. Well, if they can calm down downstairs, I’d like to contemplate further the Yanas! The first step to this is to accept my neighbor karma with love, compassion, toleration and did I say acceptance, yeah, several times now.
May I accept what I cannot change! I am no longer in the peaceful serene mountains. I am not in living in a monastery. I am in the middle of slumdogs, making the best of it, accepting my karma, learning toleration, but to love this is a bit of a stretch; I’m tolerating until I get to go home. Let there be peace on Earth (the kind that doesn’t come from alcoholic overdose or scream fighting with others until exhausted – the real kind).
Well, the grinding stopped downstairs, so maybe I can get some work done now. Yeah, it’s Sunday but parts of me don’t know that—an old throwback habit from my peaceful, serene days in the mountains. Many times I did not know what day or time it was.
Oh, to finish on a positive note—the celebration of my grandson’s birthday was such a contrast! We had a lovely dinner together at Olive Garden Restaurant (his choice) and came back to a little party at home wherein we played a few rounds of Catch Phrase, and then his mother read to him a list of memories about him that we all submitted to her beforehand at her request. His task was to guess whose memory it was. Then we each read 15 things we love about him (since it was his 15th birthday, 15 attributes or virtues, etc.). Again we had these prepared ahead of time to read. It was very beautiful actually.
His aunts gave him a savings account in their name that they opened for him and a booklet of the account and deposit slips – the account being for saving for his first car. We supported this with our own monetary gifts and he received a few video games and his mother’s big gift to encourage his music and this he was so thrilled with it—a violin! We all then enjoyed a totally awesome ice cream cake which was especially good since we’ve all been dieting. A warm, beautiful family evening!
Later I came home to bathe, sleep and be awakened at 3:30 AM to the party of drunks hooting at the trees on the balcony next door. Such is life, the acceptance of my neighbor karma, and now we’ve come full circle.
Judging from the voices below, I feel another teaching from Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche in my immediate future!
PS—why do people SLAM cupboard doors? Answer?: because they can (I suppose?) Accepting my neighbor karma—trying to send love; help me Buddha!
….and as I end this diatribe they are screaming at each other below me. Meditate? Ha! Perhaps a charnel ground meditation for me today? Chad– Perhaps and if I must.
