The Nature of the Mind – The Nature of Reality – The Fascinating Study of Enlightenment and the Karma of Ego

nature of the mind

This is IT for me, you know?  Contemplating the nature of the mind and reality makes it all bearable.  No.  Not right.   Much more than bearable; it makes life a total celebratory event.

You see, we all think (or feel) that we have our own personal single mind that is so very real because it experiences and recognizes things.  Yet, how often (if ever) do we stop and examine those experiences that the mind thinks are so real?  Break them apart, open them up, see what’s there at the core–do people do that?

Trauma or crisis can help us contemplate this type of thing (or not)–happiness too; any intense experience.   Many times doing that drives us to addictive distraction instead of some level of enlightenment and joy.  But if we really examine the experiences that the mind is having and we do so carefully, and we really contemplate this experience that this mind has and we look for that mind that has this crisis or happy experience, we cannot find a single thing!  Not one single thing but a blend of many components that we call “consciousness’.    It’s NOT YOU!

Here’s what I mean–there is no solid mind or self at the core of the experience or no real experience-ER.  I know, it sounds crazy if you’ve never thought about it but give me a chance to explain.

Consciousness has many various components–parts!  You know like a car, a vehicle has many components, parts–engine, tires, frame, door and so forth.  Is not our mind and our consciousness the same?  Consciousness has awareness of visual objects (forms, shapes, colors) and then there is awareness of sound, touch (tactile consciousness), taste consciousness and all these are separate parts or functions of the mind.  It’s like the car analogy–separate parts, gas tank, gas pedal, speedometer, steering wheel and so forth.

Consider the experience of anything for a moment–it doesn’t have to be crisis or trauma.  Anything.  Happy experience let’s say.  If we consider that each type of consciousness recognizes a particular field of experience (sound awareness or consciousness recognizes sound and visual consciousness is aware of shapes and colors of forms)… if we consider this as part of any experience we see that each of the types of consciousnesses function in an independent way from the others.

So the mind is a blend of consciousnesses and not one single unit or not one single, unitary thing.  Rather it is a compound object just like the car, the vehicle.

There are said to be six consciousnesses and in some books I’ve read there are eight.  And one of those eight include the consciousness which clings to the notion of EGO or “I”.  And another consciousness that is part of what we think of as “me” is called ground consciousness — and I wrote about this a week or so ago.

The ground consciousness  stores information from all other levels of consciousness and accumulated past lives.  You can see how this level of mind would easily support the idea of an individual identity called “me”.  It would seem so ‘real’ but it is a grouping of consciousness; a grouping of experiences.

To explain further, it is fairly easy to grasp that the visual consciousness perceives objects–that’s the potential of the visual consciousness.  If you look at a red cloth, you see red.  If you look at snow on a mountain, you see white.  We are able also, quite obviously, to see things in succession–first seeing one thing and then the next with one thing disappearing and the next thing appearing in consciousness.  So visual consciousness is multiple and successive and has the potential to see many things at once and so is not single or solitary or one thing.  Nor is it one single solitary unit of time.

strawberry fields foreverEven if we could isolate a single solitary unit of time, it would only occur within the framework of ongoing consciousness because awareness is never static–its fluid.  So every moment has to relate to a previous moment and a future moment—meaning, it is not any more singular than we ourselves are.  The future moment is the present being the past in relation to it.  Yeah, I know that last sentence is pretty deep; but the point is that time is not solid, solitary and static and neither is consciousness and neither are we!

There is no single unit of identifiable reality in either the external world of appearances or in the subjective mind.  Even space does not have a fundamentally real, inherent existence. Space is not a compound, and does consist of various parts like the car or like our mind.  Space is not a thing–it seems to exist but it is the negation of a particular appears of anything else.  Even the space in a room only exists because of the walls–take away the walls and the space that you thought existed in the room is not there and only depended upon the walls around it to appear as if it existed.

So the whole point in this blog post brings me to the point of liberation–even if I can’t fully understand it all in a way to describe it in words; in an experiential way I’ve known this truth from meditation…   it’s all true.

For example, in a contemplative meditation last evening, I tried to find… well, I asked, “Where is Joy?  Where am I located?”  It took less than a nano-second to realize I’m not my body and once you get past that basic truth, look for the location and you will find it’s everywhere!  And now here!  and nowhere!

And this, my friend, helps me to chill-ax (chill out and relax) and to see the humor in it all…. appearances are empty forms!  And again, quoting the Beatles once more, in the Strawberry Fields song, “Nothing is real; and it’s nothing to get hung about.”

DEDICATION:  May this post help another in a way that is in divine order when they come upon this post–for this is my true intent in writing it today!

Psychic residue from past lives create our reality! Latent tendencies and Boggarts

Latent tendencies interpret fast moving protons and neurons and project reality
Latent tendencies interpret fast moving protons and neurons and project reality

This whole ground consciousness and latencies or latent imprints is totally fascinating.  That information comes from deeper study of  Tibetan Buddhism which is really, in my humble terms, the study of the mind and the nature of reality.  They say that the imprints are not the experience itself, but more like dormant seeds.

I think about wildflowers when I think of dormant seeds that are not receiving the right conditions to bloom.  And yet, when they do (especially in the northeastern part of the country where I currently reside), they do not last long.  The summer sun and rain bring the conditions for the blooms and then in the fall and winter, they are dormant again.

Wildflowers
Wildflowers

I think the comparison to wildflowers is an okay or and adequate association in that these imprints are positive, negative or neutral depending upon whether they originated from a positive, negative or neutral thought or action.

Some things grow in summer but do not contain flowers—some contain thorns or brambles. As weeds and wildflowers grow, so go our own imprints–positive, negative or neutral.  And we are creating new imprints all the time–reality.

I really like comparing psychological, spiritual, philosophical aspects of ourselves to nature.  The natural world is a fertile ground for this type of relating.

Anyway, we are told by the Tibetan teacher (s) (the Rinpoche) that these seeds or imprints are activated with experiences in the here and now.  Those everyday types of experiences in life are then activated like the Sun and water and soil conditions activate the wildflowers in the summer.

And here’s the kicker!

These activated imprints are what give us the impression of solid reality (it is all energy vibrations and reflections in actuality and a quantum physicist will agree that a table or a wall is nothing more than very faSt moving neutrons, electrons, protons.  Horray for physics!  Anyway…

Back to latencies…. these are associated with external sensory experiences and give rise to the belief in dualism.  What that means is a belief that I am separate from other or interpreting everything in terms of “I” and “other”.  It is these sensory experiences provided by the dormant seeds come to bloom (so-to-speak) that give rise to a sense of individual ego or separation from All That Is.  And then we create actions based on that belief in dualism that create more and this is how we go round and round in the world of illusion.

There are those who believe that if there is a self that it is a conceptual stream of consciousness that receives these latencies and projects them as external phenomena.

Just consider that a moment as you contemplate your reality!  your life!  A stream of consciousness projecting latencies!  And in every moment we are creating more latencies based on how we respond to any ‘now’ moment!  Mind blowing!  🙂

Well, it has to be extremely more complicated than this;  but what if it’s not?

Sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, body) receive input and then process and transmit it to the brain–and when reading the word ‘input’, think energy vibrations.  The mental consciousness receives something like, “red, round, moving to the left, sharp edges” and then interprets it.

When you think that this has been going on in our stream of consciousness for eons of lifetimes, consider the amount of latent tendencies we have stored which create our reality as we experience it!

No wonder we have developed a belief that external objects are solid and real…  and no wonder we perceive what the latent tendencies tell us,  which is that the external phenomenon is solid and real rather than empty.

Psychic residue containing diverse thoughts rooted in past lives creates the forms.  The mind is transitory (fleeing, passing through, temporary, brief, in flux and in movement)–such is our life .  And eternal reality is actually nonexistent.

Conventional Reality vs Ultimate Reality

But then again, conventionally it is, meaning that conventional reality does exist.  Especially when you think of explaining to your landlord or mortgage holder that your external reality does not it exist and therefore you don’t need to pay your rent or mortgage!

We have all agreed upon this reality due to these latencies and karmic actions and therefore conventional reality exists but ultimately, as just explained, it does not.  So it’s a paradox that the Buddhists call “The Two Truths”.

One reason I believe all of this is that of my personal experience of it  in meditation is just as  has been as described by the Buddhist teachings and long before I read the Buddhist teachings–so, therefore,  I know the truth of  this via my own meditative experience.  Not intellectually.

There is what the Buddhist call shamatha meditation and this will show you the true nature of reality as one turns to look at one’s mind directly.

Well, enough for now.  Understanding these latencies and even just a wee bit can help a good deal in relieving ourselves or releasing our grasp on our attachment s and aversions.

Contemplate this and fear dissolves and aversions become laughable and attachments,  too,  seem ridiculous.

And the last word in the paragraph above reminds me of the brilliance of the scene in the Harry Potter movie (The Prisoner of Azkaban)  when the witches and wizards in-training worked with the spell to transform the Boggarts.  The word of the spell used was “Riddikulus”.

(A Boggart, by the way, is a shape-shifting non-being that takes on the form of the viewer’s worst fear.)

The image to the left is the result of a wizard student projecting an image of his grandmother onto a Boggart ,transforming the professor he fears into a comical image of his grandmother.

Learning about the mind and nature of reality from the Buddhist perspective helps us to transform our own Boggarts realizing they are no more than mind projecting  latent tendencies… what transforms a Boggart after all is humor, laughter!  (according to author J.K. Rowling anyway)

So, keep it Light!

Peaceful Reflection in Post Aversion and more on karmic tendencies

Not all apartments here are created equal, nor are all karmic imprints the same!
Not all apartments here are created equal, nor are all karmic imprints the same!

This post is me being bare-to-the-bones honest.  Sharing what I’m learning on this journey.  You may remember the posts since last year have reflected my struggle with… well,  straight to the point shall we?

Not all apartments are created equally, nor do all humans carry the same karmic imprints and tendencies in consciousness.

My inner question over many months involved knowing on deep levels that every irritating sound (or even smell; well, maybe especially smell) was illusion and my response of intense aversion to it was of course of my own making.

The sounds is ‘me’ and the smells are ‘me’ but at the same time in conventional reality obviously coming from the source of the downstairs neighbors.  For months on end, I realized this and argue with self, “…but it is so real (the loud voices the curry/garlic stink),… so real for something that is an illusion!

How could this be me when everything that remains of me that is still sane indicates the opposite?

I knew the truth of it but the aversion was so strong that the reality of it increased in proportion and the whole thing kept feeding itself.  By the way, since moving I’ve learned that the apartment building itself where this experienced hell-realm is located is cheap construction and the townhouse I’m in now has very good soundproofing. Our neighbor to the right (this is a 2-level townhouse) consists of 3 people and a dog and we never hear a word, nor do the 3 of us living in this townhouse even hear one another’s TV or words from room-to-room or from upper-to-lower level.  So life is much more pleasant as far as that goes.   Not all apartments and townhouses in this complex are equal.

The other apartment  situation may have been karmic but it provided me the stimulus to ask more deeply about the nature of reality and the nature of mind.  I would never, ever wish to repeat it but I do see how the experience benefited my evolution.

I knew deeply then as I always have in my core being that the external sounds, smell, appearances were empty and coming from the mind but the aversion was so strong… it was very confusing and I resisted it desperately causing myself compounded suffering.

The thing is when we look at something in meditation, we see the appearance of it in the mind.  Sounds, smells, all senses are this way.  The mind interprets everything and assigns meaning or judgment to it…  “i.e. this is pleasant, this is horrible, etc.”

And when we try to find the consciousness that see’s and interprets the energy, when we try to find the visual consciousness or the auditory consciousness or the olfactory/sense of smell consciousness that is doing the looking or receiving the smell, we cannot find it.   Mostly because it is constantly changing and in Buddhist terms it is “empty”.

Being a psychic this is known to me and seen in my work–energy is constantly changing and what we perceive is not the true nature of things, it is only our own perceptions which are deeply ingrained patterns (see last blog post)… latent karmic imprints.

I have to admit here that there is difficulty in explaining in this written word what I know and what  am learning here now, post-aversion, in my continued  reflection and further study of  Tibetan Buddhism.  It’s complicated on one hand and so simple on the other!  All the Libra energy in me can hold the paradox but my Mercury in Scorpio feels it and has trouble with the words.

I realize even more clearly now that the sounds and smells [from my boisterous and cooking Indian downstairs neighbors and the guitar-singing neighbor who followed] were all simply energies which hit my senses that these sense consciousnesses had absolutely no opinion of those sounds or smells.

And further, and more importantly, I realize with more clarity that  it was my mind that  was giving it whatever meaning it had back then which was that of extreme aversion.

For another person with different karmic imprints, the situation would perhaps even been pleasant (although that’s hard to imagine) or at least the aversion may not have been as strong.

Why would it differ?  All those latent karmic imprints and tendencies were awakened and it seemed very difficult to have control over my intense aversions.  I am not making excuses, I’m demonstrating, hopefully, how something pleasant or unpleasant (attractions/aversions) may differ with person-to-person based on the karmic tendencies in ground consciousness [see last blog post].

Back then, I kept thinking [getting the thought]–this smell is ‘me’ and their yelling in Hindi is ‘me’ but (at the same time) how can that possibly be?    Karmic habituation of interpreting certain energy a certain way is part of the answer.

I don’t have all the answers but it’s all getting clearer now that I am in a new setting where peaceful reflection is possible.

(I share this in the hope that it may serve or be helpful in some way to another out in cyber world who may be experiencing any type of difficulty or confusion.  May we all be brought to clarity and contented happiness and freedom from all suffering and causes of suffering.)

Summer Solstice 2014

Looking for the first star on the summer solstice from my new room
Looking for the first star on the summer solstice from my new room — we moved yesterday!

Waiting for the sunset! or twilight or something!!  I moved this weekend!  Just remembered it was the Summer Solstice.  I’ve been so busy, actually forgot.

I am sitting in front of  two very large windows in front of my desk here in my room.

My large Buddha statue that was on my balcony is now sitting on my desk right in front of me looking serene, reminding me of the nature of mind and the nature of reality. I have nearly everything set up and put away… what a monumental task moving is. My son-in-law was awesome (he drove the u-haul) and my whole family helped. Everyone said, “You’ll never get all this stuff in that room! They shook their heads and smiled at me but I pre-measured and was confident.

I managed a bed, love-seat, dresser, desk, filing cabinet and large TV in here… oh and a book case with all my astrology books, tarot books and some others. (Had to put so many books in storage!! along with so much else!)

Anyway… I got all of my indoor plants set up in my room and I put the outdoor plants on the front and back porches, along with the bird feeder on a shepherds hook and out front a blooming petunia graces the door along with my two hydrangeas and between the bushes, my large concrete angel statue!

I have a huge walk-in closet and which was able to accommodate everything. My sister and niece are thrilled with the huge kitchen downstairs and brand new stove and refrigerator! We’ve been busy, busy, busy non-stop today like yesterday getting everything out of boxes and taking empty one’s to the dumpster.

It almost feels like I’ve gone off to college and have my own dorm room!  Or maybe “Golden Girls’ (after the TV show)… my niece, my sister and me.

I can’t wait to start doing readings in this new location.

It was soooooo nice to get to sleep last night without people talking underneath my bed! LOL!  and I will not miss the downstairs neighbor in the old place who played his guitar and sang like a coyote… bless his heart.

My sister, niece and I are getting on well, being happy to have everything set up here and having the old apartments empty, cleaned and ready to turn the key over to the rental office tomorrow!

We are both full of bruises and some cuts and our backs and feet are sore from carrying boxes and furniture and beds and everything up and down stairs!

I am waiting for the first STAR to come out (have a nice view of the sky now) but if it doesn’t hurry up, I may have to miss the event for this evening in lieu of a hot bath.

Tomorrow the phone gets hooked up here and the internet is still not working bur my daughter let me use her…

“Verizon 4G portable wi-fi”

…thing-ie which is really awesome actually. She uses it for travel on business trips.

I’m still looking out the window for a star. Not yet…

The sunset was a bit disappointing…. I guess my windows and the setting sun are a bit out of alignment for this time of year or maybe the sky was prettier earlier and I missed it.

My sister’s cat is a charmer… such a sweet and quiet cat, she hardly meow’s at all but is no trouble and very cute. I call her Natasha which is what she told me her name was but my sister and niece call her by another name. It’s nice being around her.

Well, anyway, I’m not waiting anymore for the first star to come out.

I’m heading for the tub and then to read my book a while!
I’m so very much enjoying “The Cave in the Snow”–about the Tibetan Buddhist nun who meditated in a cave in the Himalayas for 13 years!

As hot as it’s been this weekend, its just fine to read about snow.

Speaking of meditating… right after a hot bath I’m going to really quiet down and meditate.

Hope you had a nice weekend.

I’m happy to have the change and am having many laughs with my sister.

PS ~ Happy Summer Solstice!! Hope you had a nice weekend!

Disengage Stress, Fear, Anxiety by Knowing the Nature of Reality and other Spiritual Tools

LotusHow do you feel when you think that thought?  Then why think it?  Or is it thinking you?  Even Byron Katie (the great truth teller who essentially teaches Buddhism or  the study of the nature of reality– i.e. “all is thought and attachment”) talks about thoughts thinking themselves.

I love the “meeting them halfway” with understanding quote attributed to Katie who said,

“I don’t let go of my thoughts—I meet them with understanding. Then they let go of me.”    I really appreciate her teachings and discussions called THE WORK.

One way to meet them with understanding is to nurture the self that is harmed by them and another is to (as Katie says) question them because in that you question the nature of reality, and just the questioning loosens the grip we have on “the story” as she calls it.

The link below will take you to an interview that I did a few weeks ago where we (Stevie- Sparks Press and I)  discussed some of these very things:

http://www.joystarpsychicastro.com/audio-interview/

You are not alone, neither am I; we all go through these up’s and down’s; forgetting momentarily and remembering.  There’s THE WORK and then various other spiritual tools that we discuss one audio (link above).

Here’s another little blurb that just came into my inbox today; this (quote below) links to these same themes about the nature of reality.  In fact, in the blog post below this one as I discuss my fears (let’s be real, we all have them.  Like Katie says,

“A thought is harmless unless we believe it. It’s not our thoughts, but the attachment to our thoughts, that causes suffering.”  And that’s Buddhism 101.

And another way to express it all is like this little line that arrived in my inbox from tut.com, who writes a message from “THE Universe”,

” The next time you feel really hurt, really angry, or really, really upset, and you’re sure that even I have been violated, shaken, and humbled, quick, check and see if the sky is any less blue, the sun any less radiant, the birds have stopped singing, or the flowers have lost their scent.”

Try the link above to the interview for practical earthy tools to use when we “think that thought” and begin to believe it or it infiltrates us without our knowing causing that panic, anxiety and mental crisis.  We talk a wee bit about astrology on the above audio too.

Here’s Help for Earth Living Irritations and Frustrations from the Oracle! Noise, gentian, mastery, 3 of pentacles and mufflers all relate here!

Here’s Help for Earth Living Irritations and Frustrations from the Oracle!  Noise, gentian, mastery,  3 of pentacles and mufflers all relate here!

Today I’m dreaming of… not a white christmas… I’m dreaming of a world of lawn mowers with mufflers!

Why in the world do those machines have to make such loud noise?  If we can put a man on the moon, we can make mowers that don’t break the sound barrier!  Can’t we?  I’ve asked myself the same question about motorcycles and 4-wheeler mountain bike things.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it is possible to quiet those machines but the men who make them and ride them (I suppose we should say people—it’s not always a gender thing)…. Anyway, they like the noise, the sound, the motor revving and all of that.

I mean just look at the NASCAR thing and I rest my case.  It is what it is.  But what about the rest of us who relish the gentle sounds of nature instead and feel invaded by these monster noises?  I’ve got to come up with a plan—spring and summer and stupid mowing season is just around the corner.

It actually arrived here yesterday and after dark and in the field across the street from my living room where the muggle man who massacred all the trees there last summer (his property – or so he thinks – so his choice).   I laugh at those who own property for all of this land was stolen from the American Indians who really couldn’t understand how anyone could own nature in the first place.  I’m of that mentality but back to the problem of the non-mufflered mower and the muggle man who is going to ride upon his all spring, summer and fall (thank goodness humans don’t mow snow!) and how I’m going to handle it!

Yeah, okay.  I’ll admit being spoiled by my peace and quiet here.  It’s been heavenly here—like I said quiet and peaceful—for the past eight years.  Now that’s changed!  And bless her heart!  I do wonder about the old lady who owned that house and property before the master muggle bought it–is she cringing from heaven itself!  As a medium I know that the who cross on the other side release attachments to earth possessions (for the most part anyway). Let us hope she does not see or care; her son told he how she loved her home and garden and the trees and flowers.

It used to be a shady and enchanting English bungalow or Tudor type architecture home and landscape until the muggle (who bought it after the elderly lady died) changed the whole look of the place.  Her beautifully landscaped trees and flowering bushes are ripped away and the house front is shingled with wood shingles that do not go along with the brick and the whole English Tudor look—gone.

Well, how he changes the look of the house is not my concern really; I’m thinking about how I’m going to handle the…. Well, to quote the Grinch, “”Oh the noise, noise, noise, noise, noise. There’s one thing I hate, all the noise, noise, noise, noise!”

ENTER METAPHYSICS:

Now, we all know that what we focus upon expands!  The more we put our attention upon something, the more we experience it and not only that—the more real it becomes and then to top it off,  the more of it shows up in our mind!  Like weeds, it grows, like weeds!  (and muggles mow weeds–so this has to stop!  ha ha)

Knowing all that, I’m looking for guidance about how to deal with it within my own mind and heart.  “Nip it in the bud”, I say. It’s going to be a long and miserable mowing season for me unless I do!  The guy is already mowing his mud out there!  It’s just now turned March and we just had a snow storm last weekend.  Talk about early! It’s been raining like crazy and even if it wasn’t, the ground is soft–muddy this time of year!

Never mind that.  It’s a fact, they don’t make mufflers for those things because if they did nobody would like to ride them (riding mowers) and nobody would buy them.  They’re loud and they disturb the peace—it’s a fact.  Now, how am I going to handle it?

THE ORACLE ENTERS:

I need to turn to the oracle—need some inspiration, some guidance, some advice.  Well, guess what card I just drew?  I thought of the question and shuffled my tarot cards and what do we have but the 3 of Pentacles!

Let’s start with the basics.  It’s and earth card—pentacles equals earth and involves practical and earthly matters.  And this card is about (to me) lessons, earth lessons, and life lessons.  The person on the card always has me thinking of the word “apprentice” or someone who is still learning.  I suppose that would apply to both the muggle and me.

I will leave what he is learning to himself, his soul and the nature spirits. Not my business except for the fact that I need to remember that he is here learning as much as I am.  It’s obvious that what I’m still learning is non-judgment and tolerance. I must use this as an initiation or spiritual test—that’s what I’m getting so far as the oracle message goes as it applies to my question about how I am going to handle the muggle’s marathons mows.

Tolerance, patience and those things and mastery over myself in those areas.  I should feel thankful for the opportunity to practice every time the muggle’s un-muffled mower makes its mark on my ears!

After all, I am here to master my emotions.  This is the card of “work” and in that sense, his noise won’t really interfere with it—I work in the den which is a room farther away from the invading, intruding, insidious, irking…. Okay!  I need to stop that!

And yes, of course I know that blogging about the problem is going to add energy to it; yet, better to get to the core of it now and find a way to deal before a molehill becomes a mountain if you know what I mean.  Besides, if I share this with others in the cyber world maybe it inspire them regarding handling their own frustrations and irritations.  (That’s always my intention in sharing these things.)

Gosh, suddenly I’m remembering the good ole’ days when I used everything as grist for the spiritual mill.  Once when I was getting new tires put on my car (this was years and years ago) at a Wal-Mart, I was sitting in the little waiting area.  I’d already completed what shopping needed doing and besides, walked to the point of fatigue.  So I sat down to rest in the automotive waiting area.  There was a door that mechanics and were coming in and out of and each and every time they did the door slammed louder than any door I’d ever heard!

Each time I jumped even though I knew the slam was coming ahead of time.  There was some sort of motor that closed the door after someone went through it.  Anyway, I utilized the whole affair as a test for myself to see if I could not flinch and jump whenever it slammed.  It was a challenge!

Look at the card of the 3 of Pentacles; we see someone there holding a diploma with what appear to be (perhaps) spiritual teachers behind him.  Could I integrate the concept that the muggle is, in some way, a spiritual teacher that I’ve somehow called forth to help me… well, to help me graduate.  In looking at the 3 of Pentacles tarot card, I keep focusing on that diploma that he seems to be holding in his hand.

Patience and tolerance for people of earth! And their loud machines!  I need to develop a tougher outer skin especially where my sensitive ears are concerned.  I think that being psychic and “a sensitive” is something that plays into the equation.  I am very accustomed to listening to every single sound that comes to my ears which is part of being clairaudient in my profession as a psychic.

I will use this as a test so that I can retire into the west – I am suddenly thinking of that line from the movie, Lord of the Rings.  The Lady of the Wood was put through an initiation by the power of the ring and said, “I passed the test, I shall remain Galandriel and will diminish and go into the west.”  She passed her initiation and I will use that memory and the 3 of Pentacles to inspire me to pass this new test put before me.  I shall not fail this initiation.

The 3 of pentacles is also about the cycles of nature, reaping what you sow and working in the fields; in other words, doing your spiritual work on earth.

And that spiritual work involves working with the reality at hand—whatever that reality happens to be.

As I think of ‘reality’, I am reminded of the Buddhist teaching about the nature of reality and no matter what challenge I have in life and of all of the teachings I’ve come across, these teachings are what always bring me back to balance and restore harmony.

We can, in fact, persevere through obstacles by remembering the true nature of reality—it is the combination of illusionary energy that is both real and an illusion at the very same time.  Ahhh, that though alone helps us lose our grip on temporary frustrations.  It helps us loosen our grip on any event, person, circumstance or experience that we tend to make too real and consequently causes suffering.

Gentian is the purple flower in the image to the right.

My Herbal Tarot deck (image above from Herbal Tarot and also the Connolly deck) recommends the use of GENTIAN which is a herb that helps to release frustrations and irritations.

As a tonic GENTIAN is used to treat hepatitis, jaundice and liver disorders.  As a FLOWER ESSENCE it is used for those who become deterred by setbacks.

Meditate with GENTIAN and it will help to open the 6th chakra so that a deeper appreciation and insight into the mechanics and skill or situation will be revealed so that one can see one’s way through a difficulty.

Essentially, the 3 of Pentacles has a lot to do with releasing frustrations and irritations.  It was THE most appropriate card to pull today in my consultation of the oracle about my mowing muggle neighbor and those associated frustrations and irritations.

When next I hear the muggle’s mower motor, I will remember the oracles advice and think of the 3 of Pentacles.  I will also think GENTIAN and perhaps order some of the flower essence to add to my drinking water!
