Guilt, Withdrawal, The Hermit, The Leopard and the 12th House with Moon and Pluto

The HermitIts probably a good day to stay home and write.  The Moon is transiting my 12th house and sitting atop of my natal Pluto with Mars nearby.  Could get intense in the outer world today–best to keep that intensity within the 4-walls here.  Or so says the intuition.  The 12th house is about seclusion and withdrawal — or at least that’s one of the archetypes.  Or that’s one astrologically accepted classic model of the House 12 pattern anyway–withdrawal.

I think that its good for the soul:  withdrawal, going within, terminating connections with the outer world.

Sometimes we withdraw from life or from certain situations for self-protection but what do we really want to protect ourselves from?  The same thing that motivates all of us–we either seek pleasure or avoid pain.

Let’s face it. We don’t have to be martyrs in life.  I don’t think it’s wrong to disengage from persons, places or things that are unpleasant if we have a choice.  Sometimes we don’t but with the blessing of the universe, sometimes we do.  Why not exercise the choice and not feel guilty about it?

That’s how my 12th house Moon conjunct Pluto feels about it today.  I think that choice is a gift, why not use it and do so so without guilt?

I don’t know about you but sometimes my feelings of guilt, when present, seem to come from worries about what other people will think about me–people that I care about or who are important to me.  Sometimes we see ourselves through other people’s eyes and that triggers those old patterns of guilt that we’ve probably carried over a number of lifetimes.

Guilt serves no purpose and is un-necessary self-criticism.  Its like allowing those voices of the old Catholic nuns or critical parents or other authority figures to take over our psyche.

It serves one thing that is purposeful however; it let’s us know that we are still working on resolving something within our own relationship to our self.    We always think these things are about us versus them.  We think it’s about our connection to the ‘other person’ or ‘the job’, etc.  When really its about our own relationship to our own self.

In other words, in my own case, honoring my own tendencies and feelings without concern of being misunderstood or judged as being uncaring or cruel.  So in that way we can see that the concern really is self-judgment.

Give self permission to embrace one’s own natural tendencies which are there for a reason and there as much for other people’s benefit as well as our own.  And honor that.

One thing we learn when we withdraw is how to experience our feelings fully and to release them in full too because we are giving ourselves the space by withdrawing in order to do so.

To carry guilt is to sabotage ourselves.  Withdrawal gives us the space to know ourselves, and to understand our feelings and to release them.

One way to resolve any guilt is to rebuild faith in one’s self and withdrawal creates the space for faith and self-trust to become strengthened.

I always relate the TAROT card of THE HERMIT to 12th house withdrawal energy.  I think of an “old soul” (if you will) and someone more comfortable alone than with others and not because of a lack of social skills or anything of the sort.  Just someone who values alone time higher than surface or shallow time with others.

Leopard walking towardThe Hermit card relates to the 12th house in another way –or so I think.  I liken this energy to someone who has created their own religion or their own rules to live by following the inner guidance or personal conscience.  Here is someone with personal dogma and may be seen as eccentric because this is quite different than the consensus rules of society and is seeking spiritual happiness in ways that the consensus cannot understand or does not follow.

Sometimes I feel a lot like THE HERMIT and its animal counterpart THE LEOPARD. Today that feels more intense than usual — it’s one of those times.

But then again, the Moon is setting off my 12th house now highly activating Pluto so I accept that as normal for today.  Once a month my inner Hermit and Leopard get kicked up to higher levels as the Moon passes through this area of my psyche.

Thus, I stay home and even write about it!  😉 wink!

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra with players Pluto, Uranus and Jupiter – How it plays out

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon) - April 4, 2015
Full Moon Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon) – April 4, 2015

Today – It’s a super charged Full Moon (April 4, 2015) in Libra!  What can this mean? Here’s my version…

But is it only today that we may feel (Moon/emotion) the effects?  No; it’s more or less a theme that’s been occurring at least since the last eclipse (Solar a few weeks ago, March 20).

Something shifted around that time, perhaps ended—a change; a new way of BE-ing may have occurred for you.

And now, that’s associated with a new beginning.

Don’t’ get hung up on the exact dates; instead just think about something that may have occurred in the life 2 or 3 weeks ago (or even  a month or so ago) that set you up for the new phase that this eclipse is heralding—new beginning; new way of seeing things; new way of being in the world; new chapter in the life.  (We can experience the effects of an eclipse months before and months after–or so they say and so I’ve personally observed.)  But what are the key factors we can realize now?

Relationship is the key word with this energy and if you’re like me—happy to be in relationship with Self with a capital S (Higher Self) and with Divine Being you may, like me, be seeing life in a whole new light.  That should be a capital L really in the word Life—meaning All That Is and of course all that isn’t and the space in between.

Of course, we’d also have to mention personal one-on-one relationships with family, friends, life partners too which may be taking on a whole new meaning right about now and over the next few months.

This is no ordinary placement.  The Sun is conjunct Uranus and T-squaring Pluto.  What a mixture!   Moon, Uranus in Aries, the Libra Sun and tossed into that we also have the Capricorn Pluto – better not reference tossing Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, anywhere– it’s he who does the tossing.  LOL

Sun in Aries wants freedom and the ability to do it’s own thing regarding its purpose in life and the planet Uranus is empowering that Sun to go for it! As I see it, the planets and luminaries are setting up that theme when the Sun/Uranus opposes Moon and squares Pluto.

To me that configuration indicates  finding freedom in our life in a new way–one which challenges our feelings of security or actually enhances those feelings to create transformational (Pluto, the transformer) attitudes or views regarding how we relate to others and/or to Life Itself.  Pluto is quite psychological and so we could sense here a new psychology in your life–perhaps a highly personal one that creates a new beginning.

Can you see or feel how this can be playing out in your life now?  And how it has been occurring for some time now?

Jupiter plays a part in this attitudinal, emotional energy merger and change of view too. Jupiter, the great benefic, is highly focused via it’s retrograde motion.  It’s moving through Leo now.   And now its making an aspect to the other players, bringing with it a sense of playfulness and joy and mostly FUN.   That’s the energy that influences and balances this new attitude and way of be-ing that is taking shape and changing our lives right now.

May the blessings of Jupiter be yours and may you find the freedom and harmony in your life that brings the new freedom/ liberation of contented happiness with the influence of this eclipse both now and over the next 6 months!

Meaning of the New Moon in Aquarius January 20, 2015 and the Aquarian in Your Life and The Chariot with Queen of Cups

New Moon times.  Could these be times in which the door to the psyche is open for us to enter and redirect our play just a little bit–at least emotionally?  And is it a time for us to create and debate and elevate as well as fixate about our emotional nature?  New Moon times could be  the most important part of our creative nature since it sets the tone for how we interpret the world.  Each month the dye is cast so-to-speak by our response to life at the New Moon time.  If we could mark the time and be aware of it, we could control the nature of the dye we cast for the upcoming 28’ish to 30-day lunar cycle.

If you happen to know  the house that the New Moon is in (for you), you can derive more insight from the vibes but even if you don’t know that information, it’s still beneficial to open to setting a new tone for your emotional responses to life.    (If you should happen to know what house 0° Aquarius falls in your natal chart, this will give you an idea for the areas of your life that will be activated and in what life categories the potential for renewal will be natural and beneficial to cast your emotional die for the next 30-day cycle.   But even if you do not know which house your 0° Aquarius is located, you can still benefit from simply knowing the sign itself.

So we have a New Moon in Aquarius!  This sign rules the 11th house of hopes, dreams and also carries a humanitarian and “friends” as general meaning archetypes.  Innovative thinking is part of the Aquarius vibe as well as freedom seeking qualities being a part of this energy.  In evolutionary soul astrology, it also links with “the wound” of the past lives.

So in any of those ways we can cast the dye for this next month–changing our emotional responses to life in those areas.

(Again, if you know the house of your natal chart that holds 0° Aquarius, you can factor in that information as well.)

I just had a brilliant idea!  (Now that’s the stuff that Aquarius is made of actually–brilliant ideas.)  Anyway, why not draw a few tarot cards to add insight to the Aquarius New Moon meaning here?  Why not?  It’s my blog and I can do what I want!–that last sentence (too) is very ‘Aquarian’ in nature.  🙂

Let me first reiterate that a New Moon relates to heightened sensitivity to a particular energy for the purpose of casting new dye for the purpose of renewing the potential of that part of your psyche.  Using emotion to rededicate yourself in some way–that’s another way to say it.  We can toss in “desire nature” as well here in that what we desire usually has a rather significant emotional derivative so using that energy to create something new in our lives.

Let me draw two cards now to help us to know more about this month’s New Moon in Aquarius, asking how we can best use this time for our highest benefit and therefore highest benefit of all.  I’m going to use the Hanson-Roberts tarot deck for this one; here we go.  (By the way, I love the images on this deck and the cards are small and fit nicely in my hands during the shuffle.  This is a deck that I used to program meanings from the divinitory method using my own memories.)

I drew THE CHARIOT and QUEEN OF CUPS.

Chariot with Queen of Cups

Well, first impression:  male image/female image so a hint at balance confirmed by the yin and yang on the Chariot.  All those stars on the Chariot card really do remind me of the sign of Aquarius and now the Cup the Queen holds, definitely relates to emotions (cups equal emotion in the tarot system).

The Chariot also speaks of using one’s will, directing one’s energy and being determined; it is also about practice and practice making perfect.  Practicing what?  The Queen holds that answer–understanding your emotional reactions.  Satisfaction comes from practicing using one’s will to understand emotional responses and to keep on that path and exerting control in some way to achieve a goal.

Sometimes we let our emotions spin out of control.  Yet, these cards speak of the suggestion that this New Moon cycle the directive is about making it a goal to control emotions so that they do not spin out, causing us to break down, go off our intended path and by failing to maintain our balance and by neglecting to keep the positive/negative pull of our nature (yin/yang) under control.

I think of the Queen of Cups always as it relates to intuition and also empathy/compassion — those energies, too, need to be balanced so that emotions don’t spin out.

The Queen sits by an ocean and this hints, to me, that water can help in our endeavors this month and if there is a goal that you believe you’d like to reach regarding water in any way, this New Moon in Aquarius would support that.   Many people feel very “at peace” near water or even in water.  Aquarius, after all, is the “water bearer” (despite it being an ‘air’ sign.  The Chariot does relate to the Sign of Cancer and Cancer is ruled by the Moon and Moon energy always relates to water.

The New Moon
The Sun and Moon are joined together to create something new during the New Moon time

So on all levels I do get that a message for this New Moon time relates to emotion and the goal of harnessing those in some way that relates to Aquarius energy — friends, hopes, dreams, humanitarian causes, group energy or perhaps it relates to a person with the Sun sign Aquarius with the understanding that the Sun and Moon are neck-in-neck right along side one another at the same degree when there’s a New Moon.

Give it another go here–what I mean is to consider reading this post over again with what your intuition tells you Aquarius means to you!  Cast the dye consciously.

Final thought:  is there a way that you can balance emotions for a new cause, a new reason in this new lunar phase?

Last Quarter Moon Phase October 2014

Last Quarter Moon Phase-2

The current energy:  The head/Sun squares the heart/Moon… well, that’s one (of many) ways to say it.  Today the Moon is in it’s Last Quarter Phase (270° to 315°).  This phase started at 1° Leo and enters  the last phase, the Balsamic at 1° Libra and then the next New Moon is 1° Scorpio.  These phases happen every month of course as the Moon moves through it’s monthly cycle.  So where are we now exactly as far as what we can expect will occur based on our New Moon intention from the last New Moon when we planted our seed and conceived something during the dark of the Moon last?

What is this phase all  about?  Well, we start with the fact of the square that the Moon and Sun are making and that brings frustration, uneasiness, the energy being at odds, conflicting.  The Moon wants one thing and the Sun another and both must be resolved–but differently.

Dane Rudhyar calls this phase “Crisis is Consciousness” — and I think too “crisis in belief”.  Internal conflicts, therefore, mark this phase.  Do we deserve what we asked for during the New Moon?  Is it possible to achieve? Are we in harmony with our own ideals?  –these types of questions could be possible now.  I can see this within my own self as I look back to the start of the cycle (Sept. 23/24) at the last New Moon and all that has happened over these last 3 week and I feel myself having to grapple with a few things internally.  Here in this phase we should be careful that we don’t create a pattern called “the undoing of the doing”.  We must not take things for granted and undermine our own creative efforts and all the while try to understand our own actions.

We are likely to seek a deeper cosmological understanding–again, crisis in belief.  We begin to feel the pull of Source Energy now pulling us into the next phase.  We may be confused about what to believe and the value system that we associate with those beliefs.

What you believe determines your values which in turn determines your lifestyle relative to your beliefs.  There can be a crisis in lifestyle and a crisis in identity as well.  An inner question such as “Am I living my life according to my own values?”    Something in consciousness is being re-polarized so that a new foundation of awareness can occur–the soul strives for a new foundation!

There is society and then there is ‘me’–values may differ.  We feel the new cycle and want to move into that but we are finishing up something in this cycle that must come first—thus, the frustration.

the Psychic in this last quarter moon phase

The psychic, the sensitive individual,  feels the longing to go home, to withdraw, and seeks solitude more frequently in this lunar phase. Thoughts of what is left behind as a legacy are typical of this phase,  And so perhaps in this lunar phase the psychic professional works on that class, that book, those teachings or the project of one kind or another.  There is still engagement with the outer world but it is like the autumn if we equated this to a season.

The Moon wanes and the monthly cycle ends and now the psychic starts to review the month, the work and perhaps takes inventory of successes and perceived failures and maybe considers how to improve or change in some way.

There is a sense of wanting to finish unfinished business and so reviewing connections with others perhaps by checking over Email to be sure everything was addressed… just anything to tidy things up because subconsciously and intuitively the feeling of needing to withdraw again is nearing.

So there is a feeling of culmination and completion here and shedding the skins that were worn in the world this time/this month.  The time is coming again soon to enter the cave once again where perhaps only a loincloth and meditation beads are needed—perhaps not literally but at least metaphorically.

No matter what your role in life or what profession you are in the emotional nature responds to an important principle or value that you feel you must uphold.  However, it is important to be flexible about this because as you feel like you would like to reform the whole system of society and the world to be in harmony with your own ideals, there is a need to be reasonable.  We can only do our best in our own corner of it working within the system (and societal values) that are already in place while being in harmony with our own system and values at the same time.

And we should remember that we are talking about the Solar-Lunar factors… the Sun relating to the Moon.  We’re talking head (Sun) versus heart (Moon). The purpose and outer persona (Sun) and the evolving emotional and soul dynamic (Moon) and we started this phase with the 270° square.  I wrote a post a while back about the difference between the energies of the Sun and the Moon which may be good to review:  CLICK HERE.

This phase is like a sweet sorrow.  Like sensing a return to the homeland after being away.  Time now feels even more precious because we know something is soon going to change but before it does we ask ourselves, “Have I been doing my best?”    These types of questions permeate our gradual return to the inner world as we move through this phase.  Longing increases to return to the dharmakaya, the place of divine truth.  We remember the “Cosmic Joke” as some say and we focus on today, now, and …. well, I just now realize that this very morning, I made a Facebook post that epitomizes this:

“In our lives there’s ‘this n’ that’ happening and then there’s the other ‘not’ happening and then again there’s the ‘meanwhile’… deep within; the eternal presence in the eternal now is meanwhile. Always meanwhile at the core of us, there’s exists, always, the divine connection meanwhile and the practice of the virtue of patience.”

There’s a sense of autumn about this phase and an acceptance of the imperfection of our lives, our values, our beliefs and those of the others and the outer world of society.  We can almost laugh about it realizing how little it all really matters in the end.   Yet, we still know we have to participate in it and so our grip loosens.  We accept what we haven’t done and may not get to do and we also see that tendency in other people–that which has not been accomplished not only in this monthly lunar phase but in life generally.  Yet, despite this, we’re okay with the imperfections of Samsara.

We know we cannot always be right, have everything we want, remain young all the years of our life but…

we must be very careful now not to become cynical.  We should let go of all judgments of ourselves and others–that’s all irrelevant anyway and we can get a glimpse of that now.

Don’t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

We do not want to repeat the past — this for sure is what we know and we must be careful not to “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”.

It is important not to judge circumstances now, no matter how things appear!  It’s best to say “I have no idea…” right now rather than to draw an erroneous conclusion about anything or anyone.  Enlightenment, after all, in the end is knowing that you don’t know all that you thought you knew!

Next up:  Balsamic Phase at 1° Libra starting on Tuesday the 21st.  And then we go thought the cycle again, so you can come back and start again with the New Moon phase entry on this blog and let the Moon phases guide you through another month.

Waning Disseminating Moon Phase – October 2014

waning disseminating moon2

The Sun-Moon angle of separation now is past full (the 180° of the total 360° zodiac circle is Full Moon).  We have now entered and are well into the Waning Disseminating Phase which is 225 – 270°.  The Moon now wanes, grows smaller.  If we put this phase in perspective by comparing it to the circle of the zodiac with Aries as first house, we’d be around the 8th house or or 9th house right about now–the area of “The Shaman”.

The Shaman who has a social identity too.  So at this time we need, like the social shaman, times for periodic withdrawal like a shaman would need while at the same time giving something, “disseminating” something as the name implies and as a shaman does.  We now have some wisdom which we gained from the Full Moon which we can share with others.

Just as a side note, it’d be nice to be able to see the Moon wane in our local sky here after the huge attention-getter that it was last week; but alas, where I currently reside,  the Moon has been camouflaged by dark clouds and rain for days now.

The homeward journey of the Moon has started, at least symbolically.   In comparison to a human life cycle, we are now past mid-life.  The Moon is closer to death than to birth.

And in our psyche during this Moon phase, there is a certain detachment from worldly concerns.  As I typed that last sentence, I laughed thinking how I took off for the gym to workout yesterday despite the area’s heavy concerns about a tornado warning and I joked with my daughter saying, “… so in case a tornado hits me, you will find my body somewhere between home and the YMCA.”  In this phase, we have the understanding that everything must die and our orientation to life changes with that mood.

We are focused both inwardly and outwardly and in that split focus we can see that we should live our life every single day as if it were the last day we have on earth.

We are challenged in this lunar phase, in some way or another, to get over our own self-importance and to diminish our self-involvement or egocentric views.  Something about this current waning disseminating energy encourages less selfishness and to make other people’s concerns more important than our own.  We also realize “how rare and precious we all are” –to borrow a phrase from the movie, CONTACT.  And with this perspective, we stop sweating the small stuff–as the saying goes.

Right now the Moon looks like its missing an edge of it’s face.

In this phase, says Rudhyar, people like to teach others what wisdom they accumulate in their internal search for understanding.

This is the time of the month that a psychic who is also a medium will likely receive the most requests to bring a message from a loved one on the other side. We will most feel like connecting to ancestral energy or the ‘old’ teachings at this time. In this phase people are tempted to want to give or ‘give back’ for the blessings that they have received and in this lunar phase, the psychic may feel like giving a free reading or do something in order to give back for their blessings.  Also, they may receive love offerings/donations in this phase.

In this phase the psychic wishes to remain engaged with others but will soon enter a withdrawal phase again as the Moon continues to wane.  There is a feeling in this phase of longing to commune with kindred souls as well as having the recurring realization that life is short and precious as previously mentioned.

PERSONAL NOTE:  As the Moon has been in the disseminating phase it was with great pleasure that I created a website for my daughter, who had been asking me to help her with that.  I noticed that I had a strong impulse to share with her what I’d learned in my online computer work and to be helpful to her.  There was an acute awareness that I had valuable information and abilities that could be of great service to her.  I’ve also felt a stronger connection to my family than is usual for me and the inevitability of the passage of time and how much I love them.

First Quarter Moon Phase 90 – 135° October 2014

first quarter moon phase

In the First Quarter Moon Phase, the Sun-Moon angle is 90 – 135°

The Moon is now 3 signs ahead of the Sun and begins at the square, a difficult angle.  At the square the Moon and the Sun are uneasy with each other.  In this case we have an air sign (New Moon Libra) and our first quarter square in this particular phase happens in Capricorn.  Libra is ‘air’ and Capricorn is ‘earth’.  Mental energy squares with earth practicality.   Conflicts of interest between the signs is one way to say it.   At this point we have to find a way to satisfy the urges and needs of both signs–both aspects being stimulated in our psyche, our soul, our heart. And this drives us to some sort of “action” in some way.  The last phase was a crisis in consciousness and this phase is referred to as a crisis in action.

Many times folks born in this phase are do-ers, achieve-ers –they make things happen.  There’s a forceful, managerial feeling to how we approach life when Luna is in this phase.   (I so went through that when the Moon was applying to 90° and by the time the angle past, I was over it and ready to take action in various ways.  Yet, as I write this blog today, it’s still early in the phase.)

Typically, it is possible that feelings of unworthiness, failure or doubt can crop up at this time. That’s what they say because it’s a carryover from the Crescent phase from a few days ago.

And in my personal example,  a few days ago there was a fluctuation in the mood.  Not so much doubt from that ray of hope that came through the new phase but it was more like crunch-time as the saying goes.  I spent an afternoon adding, subtracting, multiplying so-to-speak in order to convince myself that this ray of hope is legit and completely possible, viable, practical and do-able. Any doubt now is waning or depleting.

It is said that group energy is a theme for this Moon angle and tension between self and group energy or the energy of idealism may occur.  This is where the Moon enters the brighter hemisphere; the realm of manifestation and where we meet “others” who may be antagonistic or oppositional.  In this lunar phase it would be good to remember one’s path and to not to let the result of drama leave a mark on the evolving spirit.

I understand that last paragraph–I’ve been drawing in comments from others (probably my own reflections) that sound much like, “Are you sure about this?”

This particular First Quarter Moon right now is occurs in the sign of practical Capricorn; thus the concerns with practicality. But as I make this post, the Moon is only 6° into Capricorn and will not complete the phase until 15° Aquarius and that’s not until October 4th which is 3 days from now.  I may be sharing my personal experiences of this lunar phase prematurely but can always come back and post an addendum at the bottom of the post.  So let’s go forward anyway–knowledge is power.  Forewarned is forearmed as they say.

The Moon in the sky is really beautiful right now—looking like a half Moon, very bright; I admired it while waiting  to pick up my grandson from band practice, sitting the parking lot of the High School last night.  Looking at that Moon I thought about how a psychic artist and teacher from my past told me many years ago, nearly 20 years ago now, to study the Moon phases–that it would be helpful for me to do that.  I was thinking how helpful that guidance really was.  Oh, this isn’t the first time I’ve studied the Moon phases, but the first time I blogged about them and really applied the knowledge to what was currently happening in my own life.

The lunation cycle is a a “cycle of periodic changes”

These changes are those of the solar-lunar relationship.  The start of the monthly phasal relationship between the Sun Moon begins at the conjunction–meaning at that time the distance between the Sun and the Moon is 0°, then the maximum distance is 180° (Full Moon)–the opposition.

It is probably good to remember that the Moon in the sky as it changes is the shadow that the Earth casts upon the Moon itself.  At the full Moon the earth casts no shadow and so the Moon is fully illuminated by the Sun.

So we have new mental concepts and new emotional developments that occur each month–the lunar cycle reflects our soul’s evolutionary growth day by day or phase by phase.  We can see how previous structures and emotions (from the previous month–lunar cycle) are changing.  Last month life was one way and now life is different, right?  I love the way the Moon’s transits and phases and really give us an up-close and personal view of our own evolution.  Its like looking at our life through a microscope.

Now, in this phase, there is a gradual assimilation; a gradual revelation.

The challenge is to now grow positively toward the fullness of the revelation rather than allow the mind that is crowded with the shells of the past structures to dominate the psyche.

Will we repudiate the past and build the new?  Will we allow the seed that was planted in our consciousness (the seed we asked for, asked to be given through our intentions in our new moon meditations) to continue to be nurtured and to further grow?

The waxing phase (as the Moon is growing fuller) is a time to have an entirely positive attitude as much as possible.  Why? because at the Full Moon what we have been nurturing will become manifest in the psyche and in the outer experience too as a result.  We are laying the ground now for the time when the Sun’s light shines fully on the Moon–the solar power can make the Moon’s energy effective or not effective  based on the power of integration that we ourselves have been nurturing throughout the entire waxing phase.

The reference to “group” energy at the beginning of the post on this First Quarter phase (it feels to me) as if we are aligning with a particular group–like these are my “peeps” (as the slang term goes these days) and these are ‘not’ my peeps.  Said another way, there is a feeling of wanting to identify with a particular group now… this is occurring within me just since yesterday.  I am feeling an identification with people of my age group and in other ways, determining the line in the sand with other group energy.  And that is definitely a part of the whole New Moon intention and the ray of hope and the struggle within me to accept it as real possibility and now how the manifestation will affect my association with particular groups and group energy.  I had to think about this but I do see it.

We will encounter people who will antagonize us and ideas which oppose our own ideas.  We are at the midpoint of the waxing cycle in this phase.  There is an idealism and then a reality and there is one winner and idealism can win!  But there’s a struggle for balance too.  You know this quote?  “Thesis plus antithesis equals synthesis”.

There are crumbling structures, as Dane Rudhyar says about this phase, and the desire to commit to a principle; sort of like “do or die” type of commitment or decision about how it’s going to go from here on out.  We will NOT crumble along with those structures the way we’ve done in the past!

We have a principle or a personal ethic or a strong hope/desire and now it’s time to “win one” in some way. We know life isn’t perfect and our manifestation may not be perfection either but we ARE going to go toward it positively.  We may fear that we can’t but know that we must–the feeling now is sort of like this.

By the way, it is said that when the First Quarter Moon is in a Cardinal sign (in this case it’s in Capricorn, a cardinal sign) that there are excellent prospects for success.  This is true for people born in during this Lunar phase as well.  Cardinal signs are Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn.

This Moon phase is about building a NEW framework in some way which will overcome the past and serve the intentions for one’s future!

[…be back around or just after 15° Aquarius at the start of the Gibbous Lunar Phase which starts at 135° and extends to the 180° FULL MOON]

Waxing Crescent Moon Phase 45 – 90° – September 2014

waxing crescent moon phase

I thought I may be too late–is the Moon gone beyond 90 degrees yet?  We started with the New Phase at 0 or 1° Libra and now the Moon is at 9° Sagittarius today as I write this.    Since there’s 30 degrees to a sign and we started at Libra, progressing in order through the zodiac in the lunar cycle we have…

Libra 30° + Scorpio 30° + 30° Sagittarius and 30 x 3 is 90 degrees; so we’re still in the Waxing Crescent Phase which is from 45 to 90°. Whew! I’m not late with this blog post.  The Moon moves into the next phase when it gets to Capricorn, the next sign on the wheel.   I’m not too late and the Moon didn’t leave me behind.

Today the Moon is 69° into the next phase–the Waxing Crescent that follows the New Moon phase.  So, right on time then, I will continue.  We’re not at 90° yet.  Moving right along because I’m starting to sound like the Mad Hatter of Alice in Wonderland fame.

I’ve had one thing on my mind lately and so when it is said that you should plant a seed during the New Moon (dark of the Moon) or set an intention for the month, there’s no doubt about what that was for me in my life.

I won’t detail that here at the moment (it’s personal for now) but may share it later.  It’s still pretty new; just a seed after all and I don’t want to be digging it up or creating anything that could keep it from taking hold in the soil and pushing up above ground.  More on that in a moment.

The Moon entered the Waxing Crescent Phase when it was at 45° from the last Sun/Moon conjunction.  What was that date?  30 Libra + 15 Scorpio = 45 degrees.  The Moon hit 15 Scorpio on September 27th, 2014 in the wee hours of the morn Sunday last or late Saturday night however you prefer it depending on your bedtime, eh? That’s when the Waxing crescent phase began officially, Eastern time.

So here we are… we’re in that Waxing Crescent Phase now.  Something happened in my life at the end of the New Phase that relates to the seed I planted–it was only a word, a whisper, an inkling of the seed stirring, but it happened!

And now well into the waxing crescent phase I find myself energizing that whisper with many thoughts, hopes, imaginings, visions.  So we will see how it goes as we near the Full Moon–follow along with me through the phases and I’ll keep you posted and maybe even reveal what its all about.  No promises though; we’ll see how it goes.  Like I said, it’s very personal.  Anyway…. back to the Waxing Crescent Moon Phase for now.

Waxing.  I’ve got to tell you that the choice of words there has always sort of irked me a bit.  Couldn’t they come up with a more descriptive word for indicating that the Moon is growing brighter and larger in the sky?  Can’t begin to tell you how many times while learning this bit of Luna lore that I’d scratch my head and say what’s waxing mean again?  I think of wax as the stuff you use to make candles and I’m not sure what that…. well, “waxing” according to dictionary.com, is from the  Old English weaxan; related to Old Frisian waxa, Old Saxon, Old High German wahsan, Gothic wahsjan,  Whatever!

So the Moon is getting larger, waxing.  We just have to accept that’s what waxing means and try to remember it.

After the FULL MOON it wanes (gets smaller in the sky to our eyes) and the word wane makes more sense to me.

But now we have this Waxing Crescent that we’re well into now (September 29th, 2014) but the date is not much matter since we’ll be here in this phase again next month and every month thereafter, “Lord willen’ and the creek don’t rise” as that saying goes.

We can pretty much count on the Sunrise and the Moonrise and their rhythms; that’s another reason to love astrology–it represents something we can count on and those things are far and few in life. Getting back to business now…

The Waxing Crescent Moon; the separation of the Moon from the Sun is between 45 – 90°

In this phase feelings of hopefulness abound and there is a sense that lingers of that other-worldliness from the earlier phase and the impulse toward action or activity is increased yet there is a struggle to put into the outer world what the inner world is experiencing.

There is the struggle with the need to withdraw from social interactions at this time of the month.  Psychic work at this time will carry the tune of inspiration.

A distance of 45° in astrology is called a semi-square and there is a struggle here, says Dane Rudhyar, for something concrete–a structure or mental concept.  There is the shock of discovery at this angle–it’s thin and new.  There can be a feeling of excitement with a tendency to want to slow down and look at things from all angles.   To our eye the Moon won’t have a distinctive shape until it reaches the First Quarter 90° when it looks like that distinctive semi-circle–until then the Moon’s shape is a straight line more-or-less.

There is gradual revelation in this phase which also includes the sextile (60°) and that’s where a comparison and contrast becomes evident and exciting.  In our current cycle that happened when the transiting Moon was at approximately 1° Sag. (Yesterday, Sunday 9-28-14).

There’s no stress with any kind of sextile and in this phase there’s a good deal going on internally.  There needs to be an isolation from the external world so the soul can ponder what’s taking place and begins to think about the effort and skills needed to work in harmony with the seed that is taking shape.

This whole waxing crescent phase is about allowing the evolutionary intent to take root–new energy with a new purpose.  Keyword:  allowing.

And here there can be those fears… fears of the past repeating itself.  No!  don’t let yourself go there!  We are doing evolution and NOT de-volution.  Right?

(I can feel that within my own experience now and it is very much in alignment with what the books all say about this phase.)

The Moon here in the waxing crescent phase is is young and full of possibility.  If we put this in terms of seasons, we could say that the Moon here is still in “winter” and we know spring is around the corner.  We still feel the ‘otherworldliness’ that carried us from the New Moon phase that came on the heels of the Balsamic phase where something was about to be conceived.  It was conceived!   And now the energy wants to rush out and to manifest.

Before this Moon cycle began, it was abstract and we couldn’t quite conceive of  how our desire or hopes could come about–it was dark and confusing but then a trace of light happened in the New Phase and into the Crescent and it has been growing all along!

Sooner or later what we want to happen will–that’s the feeling now but it feels awkward still.  Yet, at the same time, we’re ready to take it on, go with it, roll up our sleeves and work in harmony with it.  There’s an urgency feeling of something that has to get done but you don’t want to jump the gun that’s loaded and ready to go off– it’s not gone off yet!  And you don’t want to just sit there and do nothing either.  There’s the struggle.

Rudhyar says, about this phase, that people born in this phase “may be characterized in some cases by a deep, subconscious sense of being overwhelmed by the momentum of the past and the power of “ghosts” or karma”.  [i.e. doubt.]

There’s a feeling of not wanting to let things slip through the fingers, not wanting to miss the boat.  The hands are being untied now and there’s a strong desire to use them well.

In the month of October and on the 8th of this month — next Wednesday from now to be exact — there will be a FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE.  (That’s a whole other blog)

Anyway, the energy now indicates that something bigger than one’s own self is about to give purpose, direction and shape to the life.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll drink to that–raising my coffee cup to the Moon and the Goddess therein!

[I will see you somewhere near the Square, the 90° angle of the Moon to the Sun and that’s going to happen (as stated earlier) at 1° Capricorn.  In this time zone (Eastern) this happens on October 1st!  See you in a few days; that is, if I can stay on time here with my blogging intentions I will. :0]

When the Moon transits the 12th house

Moon in the 12th House

The Moon is transiting my 12th house right now as I finish up this blog series of Luna through the houses during her monthly jaunt through the zodiac.  Compassion, unconditional love, innocence, openness, the hermit, the mystic, the spiritual healer–we rarely hear those archetypes spoken of regarding the 12th.  Ominous–that’s instead what you hear about the 12th.  The house of Halloween, trick or treat and ‘things that go bump in the night’–the places in our life where things that are freaky, scary, sorrowful, sad, happen.  Where we are in isolation, on the edge of the abyss!  Confusion, distortion, escapism–those are a few more word associations for this part of life that is ruled by Neptune/Pisces.  Jails, prisons, institutions–that too comes through the astrological grapevine about the 12th. The motion of the energy of Neptune and Pisces is inward and on the highest level represents the totality of consciousness, universal mind and the collective unconscious.  People who are comfortable here are often though of as crazy and end up being institutionalized in some way, thus the connection with jails, prisons and institutions.  The feelings of being alone and cut off; some folks are actually comfortable in that state and relish it, thrive in it.  It’s the area of “mind”. Personally, I think we could look at the 12th house in someone’s birth chart and get a feel for what type of “mind” or inner-consciousness the person has—if there is such a thing as a “mind type”.   I say that in a very general way since of course there can be more than one sign in a house, intercepted signs, and planets with their aspects.  But right now we are talking about the Moon as she transits through the 12th, so better stick to that topic and not wander off as Luna in 12 tends to do. 🙂

Pisces/Neptune’s association with the Universal Mind can lend the 12th the flavor of faith an inspiration–perhaps god-consciousness if you will.  The archetype of Neptune/Pisces also correlates with the 3rd eye/pineal gland.  There’s hypersensitivity here as Luna moves through the 12th–and since that Neptune/Pisces has no boundaries (the archetype of totality), the Moon here could have a person feeling like a psychic-sponge.

If a person has a highly pronounced Neptune/Pisces signature in the chart or is born with a number of planets in the 12th house and does not understand the energy or perceive the self as a spiritual being then mental illness or psychic distortions can occur.

Pisces/Neptune and 12th house energy relates to addictions–using substances rather than spiritual means in an attempt to reach a transcendent and peaceful state.  Nervous breakdowns due to oversensitivity to everything expressing as feelings of being deeply lost, confused and disillusioned.  Yet, the sensitivities of the 12th house can engender deep compassion, love, openness, innocence and result in the mystic, the healer, the teacher.  One will find it necessary to be hermit like with the sensitivities carried when the 12th is stimulated.

I have 3 planets in my 12th house and currently Jupiter is transiting here along with the Moon.  Usually a Moon in the 12th increases all my senses but add Jupiter to the mix which further intensifies and expands everything within it’s reach… adding the sign of Cancer on this cusp and we have some strange tasting emotional tea!  Yet the ability to feel unconditional love for self and others is very acute right now.

As I type these words the Moon/Jupiter conjunction is sitting right on my natal Pluto/Saturn conjunction in my 12th house.  I do have the feeling of wanting to escape and moments of feeling borderline crazy surge between other moments of seeing how it all is here on Earth for all of us and tears form in my eyes and start to roll down my cheek.  The feeling of being a stranger in a strange land are usually part of my psyche but are more acute than usual, more pronounced.

When the Moon transits the 12th, the emotional desire is to recognize that spiritual growth is the main purpose of life and other factors that do not fit into or match that desire tend to fall by the wayside.

The Moon transiting the 12th house causes a person to feel strong psychic undercurrents and the energy of others.  Luna, the Queen of Mystery, here in the last house picks up on all subtle energy influences.

There will be a desire within the emotional body to find some way to commune with the deep psyche’, with God if-you-will, and to go deep into the soul.  There will be an inner call to withdraw, to escape in some way from the world of others and mundane existence.  It will be easy to become psychically overwhelmed.

When the Moon transits the 12th house it is a good time for a retreat, a rest, to be quiet and to figure out what is going on.  Examining motivations and emotions and trying to bring into conscious some of what has previously been unconscious.

The 12th house is the house of uncertainty and faith at the time of a lunar transit here faith is a priority because natural uncertainty takes a big emotional hit from the Moon; therefore there is a natural vulnerability to worries, fears, doubts and unavoidable obstacles. Deeply felt anxieties can be triggered by the Moon transiting the 12th but it is also the time when we are most sensitive to the messages from the unconscious or from universal mind (spirit guides, angels, etc.).

The 12th house archetype includes a naked vulnerability but this nakedness and innocence can be a huge source of power–the ego cannot exist well here.  The conscious and unconscious mind being as one is where, if it’s going to happen, it’s going to be in the 12th house.  Letting to and trusting the divine–having faith–not attempting to control a single thing!  That’s the only way to negotiate the 12th house.  (And I speak, again, from experience having 3 powerful natal planets aspect-ing my lunar nodes.)  Trust me when I speak from firsthand experience about the 12th house.

One benefit of the 12th house is that we can see humor in the chaos if we can just “go with it” without the ego expressing anything.  My sister said to me a little while ago as we spoke by phone about some difficulty I am personally experiencing these words:  “…it’s all in the mind.”  Hearing that from her when I actually teach this stuff–at first i wanted to cry and then after a few moments burst out laughing at the ludicrous reality and non-reality of that little comment.  So there’s a little 12th house joke for ya’.

It is also thought that the life-force seems to be a bit diminished in the 12th house; so we may find a weakened immune system when this house is active.  It is thought that the body’s natural defenses to bacteria is lowered.
Along with the 4th and the 8th houses, the 12th forms what is called the OCCULT TRIANGLE and favors mysticism and as mentioned psychic sensitivities are acute here:  i.e. the claire sisters (clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience).  Moon moving through the 12th house is a good time to meditate and to divine information i.e. to do “readings” and spirit message work.

Sorrow and unhappiness through confinement is an archetype well-known in this house so feelings of entrapment and/or mental bondage can happen if this house is not being negotiated well;  those feelings come from ego and the flip side of that coin is spirit.  This, too, is the house of ‘hidden enemies’ it is said and this comes from the abuse of drugs or fantasy and then one feels that suicide is the way to escape the difficult feelings that can arise here.

We also hear of the 12th house as being the house of karma–mostly that which is created from the conflict between ‘my will’ versus ‘Divine Will’; thus we also hear that the 12th house is the house of ‘surrender’ or letting go’.

Moon in the 12th adds to the intense fluctuation of emotion and a person feeling the effects of the Moon moving through their 12th house can feel lost, vulnerable and unsupported. This may, of course, be real or it may be imaginary and it relates usually to family since the Moon rules Cancer and the 4th house of the ‘home’ and ‘family’.   So what is the answer to these feelings?  Well, the opposite of Moon is Saturn which relates to boundaries and there must be a willingness to let go of people, even family.

Personally, I find that to balance out my 12th house which contains Cancer with Leo is to turn to the polarity–6th house and Capricorn with Aquarius.  Often times, for me, that means writing–such as writing this blog post today!

Jupiter will remain in my 12th intensifying and expanding all my 12th house natal energy, so as for me Luna’s exit tomorrow morning will not be the end of it for me, but perhaps the emotional aspect will decline a bit.  Jupiter hangs out in my 12th house until next summer — what with its retrograde business and all that jazz.  They said Jupiter is the planet of luck, good fortune and I’m ready for some (more) of that! 🙂  Meanwhile, counting blessings, feeling grateful in all ways that I can and yep–work and boundaries!  Writing always helps and one of my natal 12th house planets is transiting my 3rd right now–writing therapy but always with humanitarian flare is how it goes for me.

( By the way sister, if you are reading this, when Jupiter entered my 12th house is when we became roommates. )

And I offer this to others with a loaded 12th house (like myself) where Jupiter may also be transiting with the Moon today.  Or for anyone who may find this post on the search engines in an effort to understand the Moon, the 12th house and Lunar Transits, especially when the Moon moves through the 12th house!

May something here help you with self-understanding. Amen!
