The Difference Between the Sun and the Moon in Astrology

The Difference between the Sun  and the Moon in Astrology

Sun Moon

I will continue with the Moon through the Houses blog posts but wanted to add this post in, in-between.

The Sun is our self-concept or identity–one’s sense of self-hood.  If a person just thought of “self” words such as:
self-confidence,
self-esteem,
self-image,
self-preservation,
self-expression,
self-contentedness,
self-consciousness,
self-ish-ness
So you can see that the Sun correlates with Ego, right?  And it represents our need for recognition and how one goes about getting that recognition or attention or acknowledgement of the “self”.
The Moon, on the other hand, represents subliminal or less conscious patterns in the psyche.  It’s not ego that we express outwardly like the Sun but rather how you “feel” inwardly.    Sometimes it is instinctual and not conscious at all–meaning that it is the part of a person that there are no words to express, especially for someone who is not in touch with their feeling nature at all.  And let’s face it, lots of people have shut that down purposefully.  Look at soldiers, they are trained to shut that down.  People will often deny or shove down the Moon energy but it shows in the world anyway.  People see the traits of your Moon energy whether you deny them or not.  People will project their Moon energy too–attracting other people who will carry that energy for them.
Your Moon energy is your emotional response–your instinctual or  “gut” responses.  Moon and Sun are like heart and head respectively.  That’s one way of seeing it.
We could also say this about the Sun/Moon contrast:  The Sun dominates it’s environment.  The Moon’s way differs; it adjusts and responds.  Luna is sensitive to surroundings, melding into them rather than trying to shape or resist like the Sun does.
When I was a child, my mother and father would advise me to stop being so sensitive.  They, of course, knew nothing of astrology.  If they did, they’d have understood just how difficult their criticisms of my nature and chastising me to “develop a tougher skin” wasn’t accomplished so easily with someone of my nature.  Neptune is sandwiched between my Sun and Moon and all in the same sign and that alone is an astrological signature of a “sensitive”.  But they were giving me advice that they thought was helpful I’m sure even though I felt very misunderstood.
The Moon is Heart and Pure Emotion and more more fluid than the Sun.  The Sun, you see, tries to screen out emotion in order to guard the ego but if a person has a Sun and Moon close this is more difficult to do (in my own case, the Moon is balsamic to the Sun).  The Moon springs from the unconscious and can feel overwhelmed.
There’s so much more that can be said and will be said through my upcoming Moon class…but that’s a little bit of the difference between the Sun and the Moon.  What if the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign?  The archetype of the Sun sign and the Moon sign if they are in the same zodiac sign, are the same but they manifest differently in the ways just described.

Desire for Transformation – Mars sextile Pluto August 15, 2014 Astrology

marsMARS IS SEXTILE PLUTO….feels a little bit like the universe (in my version anyway) is holding it’s breath … like a long pause or something… so i turn to astrology to see what’s up and Mars is making a sextile to Pluto.

Keywords:  Mar/action  Pluto/transformation

But keywords never tell the whole story.  Mars represents the ‘conscious’ desires of the Soul... what we’re aware that we desire.

And Pluto?  Well, it’s retrograde.  That can relate to a very narrow focus in the soul.  We can see how our conscious desires easily (sextile) stimulate our soul in some way.  Can be confusing if you don’t know what you want–and around that desire, Pluto demands sacrifice.

What are you willing to sacrifice to fulfill the conscious desires?

This interpretation works for my own life right now.  Maybe the feeling of the long pause, holding of the breath, is because many other souls are also trying to work this out–the desire, the sacrifice that is demanded to fulfill it.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY we have the very practical and conservative CAPRICORN where Pluto is currently living and very emotional MARS… fire planet in a water sign, Scorpio.

Emotional intense and impulsive Mars in Scorpio has a desire and its pretty easy to see the possibility of how Pluto is pointing out the realities of that desire; possibly saying GET REAL MARS… your desire is not practical.  Yes, transformation is in order, but be realistic.

This aspect is asking us to be clear about our objectives.  Any action taken now could result in permanent and far reaching change.  Therefore, Intense emotion must be balanced with practicality at least for now.

Both mars and Pluto are making an exact sextile today at 11° and the energy will be within the orb of intensity for the next 3 days or so…. now through the weekend this energy may be quite prominent in the psyche’.

ADDENDUM:  a further look at my transit chart shows the current Sun right on/crossing over  my Ascendant and with Sun ruling my chart (27° Leo rising), maybe that’s the feeling of the universe holding it’s breath… and now i go to celebrate a happy un-birthday today!

PS– if you have any insight about how you personally experienced a Sun over your Ascendant (happens once a year!) that you’d like to share, please email me:  joystar777@gmail.com.

Here’s a little interesting article on the Sun transits to AC, IC, DC and MC points that I just came across in the Mountain Astrologer:

Yogic Conduct, Entering the Action, Embracing Life

BUDDHA DOODLE EMBRACE YOUR SELF-AWARENESS BRAVELY

I do love the way Divine Mind operates–that’s just me talking to It!  A friend sent me that BUDDHA DOODLE [image above] moments ago via email (credit to Molly Hahn/Buddha Doodles).  This image correlates with the post I was thinking to make here relating to something I heard a Rinpoche (teacher) speak of the other day.  Before I get too complicated with it all–and I really don’t have to since the doodle says it all really–there is a term I heard that really rang those ‘Buddhist Bells’ with me!

Oh, by the way, I have tingsha bells and they are an economical substitute for singing bowls and gongs and other tools… they don’t take up much room either. But let me go to the point about this term or phrase used by the teacher.  I don’t know if this is the correct interpretation of exactly what Rinpoche was intending, but here’s what he said.  When a highly evolved yogi reaches a particular state of evolution it is said that they are in YOGIC CONDUCT.  Rinpoche’s translator said it means they have “Entered the Action”.

Interesting.  For this particular yogi they were referring to first studied at the university and then meditated in seclusion for a long time and then taught students and then following that he went into “Yogic Conduct” or “Entered the Action”.

Sounds a bit like going into battle doesn’t it?  I wonder if that means  (to do what we think of as ) “walking the talk” in a way that is more intense or “activated” or “active”–??

I thought of my own life since haven come down from the mountain into a densely populated area of sentient beings, including souls of blood relation, family.  It’s been totally intense, like I have “entered the action” in some way or another--fer’ sure!

Again, I have no idea of that’s what “yogic conduct” means or what the Tibetan Rinpoche and his translator were really talking about or it means something else entirely. But I thought the term to be interesting.  I tried to goggle it and found nothing.

But anyway; I am about to be putting all of my things in storage for a while and having one room for my personal space like a monk or yogi in a monastery–like a monk’s cell.

And further will be living with two family members, sharing half the rent in another apartment.  (My hope is that this is very temporary until space opens in other housing where I have made application–and also supplication!  ho-ho, hee-hee)

But the monastic cell is going to be awesome (compared to previous lifetimes!-Ha!) –live plants, big windows, TV, computer, desk, etc.  Heaven in comparison!  (And the company of fine family companionship…. I am most grateful to my kind sister for sharing with me temporarily so I don’t have to break a lease elsewhere and can be ready when the place to which was supplicated has an opening.)

Anyway… self-awareness, remaining mindful, allowing emotion to become the  path–that’s what the Buddha Doodle means to me.  Another recent blog post covered a good deal more about working with emotion as the spiritual path.

Entering the Action!  Yogic Conduct!  Om mani padme hum.

ASPIRATION:  May I be able to practice the genuine dharma!

May I remain mindful and awake!

May all beings, through their virtue, perfect the accumulations of merit and wisdom!

May this blog post be helpful to someone in cyber world!
