The Fool and The MisUnderstood Fringe Dweller

“Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self Reliance

00_The_FoolRelationships!  Great teachers!  That quote always helps me to feel better at times when I feel mis-judged or mis-understood.  I wanted to blog a bit about it and hope in doing so that it helps others who come across this problem themselves.  This may be a more common experience among fringe dwellers and those are the type to come across a blog such as this.

Anyway, do we subconsciously ask for these judgments and or set ourselves up for the opinionated wrath of others?  I don’t think so.  Perhaps a tarot card can help us out here so I pulled one.  And by the way what I’ve observed is that those who point the finger at fringe dwellers are those that fear being on the fringe themselves and as so often happens we project our fears onto others.

So the cards we have here to help us understand these types of experiences are one major and one minor arcana card — namely, The Fool and the 3 of Pentacles.

The Fool has no home, no destination, with no possessions.  I have to laugh a bit at the cosmic joke here–currently I am without a home that is my own (I share an apartment) and essentially live in one bedroom.  I don’t know where I am going to be going (on various waiting lists currently) and well, this last part is partly true.  Most of my possessions are in storage and they’re not much at that–I’ve probably paid more in storage rent than the stuff is actually worth!  In that way this card describes my life right now–thus, the cosmic joke.  But getting back to the point now….

The Fool is fed by what Zen folks would call THE TAO, or the Great Mother or The Divine Intelligence.  And I think this is what fringe dwellers who are mis-understood should remember.  It’s important.

Others (the one’s who mis-calculate our life and our reasoning and our behaviors) are mere reflections of energy that we sometimes cast in more important roles than they deserve.  What I mean there is that we put people in a role many times and then we expect certain behaviors or perhaps a particular loyalty or some such attribute.  And then of course, they let us down.  People most all of the time do not live up to the expectations we have of the roles that we assign to them in our minds.

And that is a 2-way street of course.  It’s the reason we feel misunderstood at the same time the other mis-judges.

The thing is that it is we who are judging our own self, isn’t it?  We judge ourselves for not being part of the pack and then we see that reflection.

It is okay not to be part of the pack and this is why I like the quote from Emerson on self-reliance.  it is reliance on THE TAO or the GREAT MOTHER or reliance on the DIVINE INTELLIGENCE or DIVINE LOVE.

Not being part of the pack and feeling the pack turn against us (no matter how it comes about–i.e. reflection or not) is helpful in that it turns us back within toward that energy as described–the Divine Love.

Many times we want others to give us that respect, that love and to provide that sense of ‘belonging’ for us that we can only give to ourselves.  it is like turning ourselves inside out to find all of that within.  We fringe dwellers have done that over and over again, many times.  it is part of being on the fringe; only old souls or experienced souls seem to be capable of handling it.  I see that observing others who seem to be like myself–that’s why I say so.  Reflections? Maybe, but I do observe and correlate and we do carry the collective unconscious within us.

The tarot card of The Fool is all about learning from experience and and knowing that he is one with All That Is–so why worry?  The Fool is comfortable being alone and without attachment because of the inner knowledge that there is never any separation whatsoever and as in the the movie, The Matrix when the young adept says, “There is no spoon”, it is the same way with The Fool.  Even if there is a fall, even if it hurts a bit, it is just part of the Divine Matrix, an grand illusion.

We are sustained by Life Itself after all and not by the others–they only play out a role of our own making to help us see the truth… there is no spoon, no fringe, no dweller and no others, not ultimately.  Conventionally we have to acknowledge the existence of others, the pack, and the world of matter, but ultimately, “there is no spoon”.

It is a gift really to be mis-judged and mis-understood because it is at those times we are being assisted or reminded of ultimate reality.  It is not denial, it is enlightenment at least in the moment of the recalled realization.

I love being a psychic and in touch with various forms of divination and the tools of the trade.

03_Three_of_PentaclesPS— i nearly forgot about the 3 of pentacles but then again writing this blog post as I feel misunderstood today is an example of that card’s meaning.  I often think of this card as doing work.

Planting seeds, GETTING REAL and that’s writing this blog post today is about for me.   Applying your craft.

Many spokes attach to the hub but it is the empty center that turns the wheel, they say.    Emptiness has potential–that is associated with the 3 of pentacles as well.

The 3 of pentacles as a person is one who is highly skilled and has deep feelings.  This card reminds us to apply our craft, our art to any perceived problem or concern in life.

Financial Worries, Fear and the Taming of the Ego-Shrew: Here’s Help to counteract fear and worry

Angel Card of AbundanceCalming the fear – taming of the shrew ego – that’s been tonight’s business.  Am I going to be able to pay next month’s rent while still being able to give my daughter a small (and I do mean small) wedding gift?  Mid-August through mid-September is customarily a slow time with people getting children (and themselves) back to school and college.  I’m not irresponsible when it comes to money.  And anyone who knows me also knows this is ‘the big one’ that I seem to have to deal with every now and again:  survival (money) issues!  O and Lo am I ever so weary of that shrew cropping up now and again at the worst possible times!  Like now.

How do we counteract gripping fear and worry?

And make no mistake, it does have to be counteracted—it can be cripplingly immobilizing and can create near panic.  O maybe it’s not financial issues for you—perhaps it’s your family issue or your health issue or your career issue or some timing issue of some type. No matter—fear is fear; and I’ve learned hope is the flip side of it and isn’t all that helpful in its essence either… hope is just another game of the ego-shrew.

That claustrophobic and trapped feeling that fear instigates can feel pretty intense!   So what to do?

Well, since I just did something that helped, it occurred to me to blog about it in case it may help someone out there in cyber world with their fear in some way too.

Help!  I’m afraid, I’m scared, I’m worried, I’m freaking out… “Holy hemmed-in Batman, what do we do?”

First, it’s best (having learned from experience) if we can catch ourselves before we sink too deep into those feelings.  And that feeling (you know… you’re familiar) is similar to being cast in concrete and drifting into the deep dark ocean.. the abyss.

You know when it’s happening and it’s no use trying to escape through demonstrations of anger or blame and it doesn’t help to try to dull the senses through alcohol, food or drugs—that’s only putting a band aid on it and then you feel worse when you have to rip that bandage off!

The best way to catch that feeling and shift it is to simply think of the part of the universe called potentiality or god or space or expansiveness—start to get a visual of a huge blue ocean or pink sky or the vastness of outer space (think far out where there are 10 galaxies before you).

Now breathe that in and deeply too! And then breathe out the claustrophobic feeling right into that visual of open space.

What helps me is to bring purpose to my suffering of fear by thinking about others—other humans.  People who are in the same situation as myself who are also feeling this way and so now I breathe out for them the claustrophobic fearful paralyzing feelings of despair and fear and I breath it out for myself too—for all of us.

And for all of us I breath in that expansive sky, ocean or place in the universe where the group of galaxies are—whatever visual works for you.

I think it’s good to realize that the expansiveness is full of potential—full of good energy that can make our desires manifest—and with that thought, breathe it in deeply for self and for others.

That first step helps you to feel so much better and gets you out of the grip of the downward spiral.

For myself I find it comforting to grab my divination tools—that helps me focus the energy that I’ve just connected with especially now that I am emptier of the fear.  Not everyone would do this; but because I am a psychic by profession, I happen to have divination tools and I use them to have a talk with myself on all levels that myself exists and with all the Divine Assistants who are… well, assisting.

If you don’t have divination tools like tarot cards or runes or a pendulum or angel cards, simply get a paper and pencil and start journal-ing and in the process of journal-ing, ask your Self one question at a time and intuit the answer—write it all down even if you think you’re making it up; if you are open and sincere, that’s all you need to be.

You will find it is comforting and centering to ask questions and to let the divine intelligence answer.

Pause every now and then and do the expansive breathing and visualization—releasing limiting feelings and breathing in freedom, safety and the type of assistance you require.  Ask and don’t be surprised when it is given.

The ego-shrew will still try to take hold from time-to-time throughout the process, but we are taming the shrew and will not tolerate that interference—just breathe that shrew away!

Tonight I used my cards and received the informational replies to my questions which felt reassuring and I now feel much calmer.

I asked if my financial situation will improve and received the Yes indicator from my tarot cards and then at the end of the question and answer session I thought to pull one Angel Card and after giving it the good shuffle, I felt the energy indicator (energy surges within me) to stop the shuffle and turn over the top card.

Review:  My overall concern this evening (truthfully, it was gripping fear) had everything to do with money/finances and my shrew-ego had been goading me to worry over my ability to pay next month’s rent, remember?

I had to smile and lean back onto my pillow when I saw the card that came up—it was the Angel Card of ABUNDANCE.  I feel better.

I hope that something written here helped you to feel better too.

Divine Timing and Being in the Right Place at the Right Time

Maybe it’s always been this way and when I was younger; I was just too busy to notice. It really got my attention the first time about 10 (or has it been 15?) years ago in Sedona, Arizona.  My sister and I had driven in from Phoenix and just as we entered town we saw a number of school busses lined up and parking and traffic being directed.  I rolled down the window and asked someone what was going on.  Pow Wow!  I had only one question, where do we park to board the bus to get there.  That Pow Wow was huge!

My christian sister wasn’t impressed, she mostly shopped in the little tent booths.  I was practically moved to tears hearing the drums and watching the dancing… in my head I kept saying over and over “My People” and tears welled up in my eyes.

I love when synchronistic things like being in the right place at the right time happens.

There is something within us that directs the timing of events and circumstances—I’m as sure as you are.  How many times have we been at the right place at exactly the right moment?  No accident.

It was Halloween and of course I knew when Halloween was, but without children at home anymore or even trick or treaters to come by (houses are too far apart on a single lane narrow mountain road), and with the distractions of my mind going in a thousand places at once half the time; I’d forgotten.

Suddenly, I look out and see it is going to be getting dark and I had not gone for my walk yet—“better get going, go NOW”.  So I laced up my shoes and out I go to walk in town and as I’m going along I see people across the way on the sidewalks and a bit of a crowd is forming and I wondered what is going on.  Usually there are not so many people in town.

I knew that the loop I walk will be taking me over that way and lo and behold when it did, I realized they were trick or treaters—that’s right, it’s Halloween!

I had only walked one mile and I usually do three, so I kept going and before long the whole town had turned out and the sidewalks were full of children in costumes and even the parents were dressed too.  Small town, you know!  The merchants and the bank and the gas station and even the car wash people and the community clinic were handing out candy as the kids and their parents (and me) walked the town loop. It was fun to be out with the townspeople and as night started to fall the pumpkins everywhere were lit and it seemed to me to be perfect.  The crowd had built along with my walk—I arrived just in time.

Another night near Christmas time, the same sort of thing happened.  Now that I think of it, it happens when there’s a street dance too… something within me says, “Go now” and when I do, I see the perfect timing involved and smile and nod while feeling warm and happy inside.  The divine intelligence at work again!

I went for a walk late in the day that day and when I got toward town to start my little jaunt, I see there are about 5 cars lined up at the traffic light.  Huh?  Traffic?  We don’t have traffic around here!  I wonder what’s going on.

As I get closer to my destination, I ask and am told that the Christmas parade is about to start.  Really?  There it was again—perfect divine timing, at the right place at the right time.

I got to do my walk while alongside the high school marching band (17 members with instruments and about 10 girls with flags), every fire truck in the township (all 5) and every bit of equipment the county owns—police cars and snow plows included.  Around here we have lots of 1950’s restored car shows, so they were all in the parade too.

You should have been there—even the local Roto-Rooter truck was decorated and pulling a wagon full of kids with elf hats throwing candy at the crowd.  Should we use the word crowd?  It was hard to know if there were more people in the parade than watching it, but I enjoyed it!

The point is that I’d have missed it if I hadn’t listened to that voice of intuition that says, “Go now.”

I’m pretty accustomed to following it and it helps me to be at the right place at the right time.

PS—sometimes it helps me not to be in the right place at the right time too.  Recently, I missed a phone call that it was definitely good to miss (it’s a long story and the details don’t matter).  Just believe me that it was good that I missed it, and it worked out in my favor that I did.  The circumstances around my missing the call were enough to prove to me, once again, that there is an intelligence that is metaphysical at work and it isn’t just pure simple dumb luck.  No one could convince me otherwise—not when I witness perfect, exact timing happening over and over and over again!  And you know exactly what I’m talking about–think back.
